Default ASP .61 4-st Crankshaft Problem

Can anyone advise please: How to remove the broken stub of the con rod pin from the crankstaft?

Also: I haven't been able to find a supplier for a replacement pin . . . . so does anyone know what spec steel rod i would need? Piano wire has been suggested, but i wonder if this would work, assuming i can find a way to remove the broken part of the pin (is it, as i assume, an interference fit?)

Tony

Hydraulic press to remove.

Find a needle roller bearing or drill rod of the same diameter, cut to length, round off ends and press in with a hydraulic press.

The broken stub is in a blind hole - how will a hydraulic press remove it?

You can remove it by drilling it out in a drill press. Spot the center with a punch, use a small center drill and then drill the pin our with progressively larger drill bits. I don't know if the pin was machined from solid or was pressed in. If pressed, it should come our fairly easily as it's diameter is approached. If solid you will end up with just a hole.
Can you just buy a new part?

your best bet would be to buy a used Saito,

but, considering that the ASP is a copy of the OS I have to wonder if an OS crank will fit your engine, or I guess you could just order a new ASP Crank from "Just Engines, see my link>>

Thanks guys. It turns out that the pin is serrated as well as an interference fit. Anyway, I heated the crank up this morning and pushed on the broken stub with a screwdriver.....and it moved a little. With nothing to get a hold of i wasn't able to remove the pin, but at least i now know it is "get-outable", so I will go the drill it out route. In the meantime I've replaced the ASP with an OS .52 4-st which I've had in-stock for a few years ☺
