Castor stuck engines
#26
Spent over $600 last year alone in un-re-imbursed shipping costs. Sent engines, planes radios and parts across the country and overseas.
Been doing that for quite a while already
Not doing that any longer.
As shown above, it is hard enough to give the stuff away.

I also made a few phone calls and located a genuine Webra strap on exhaust pipe. (Some people call them "headers" or manifolds but they really are not )
New and in package I will be sending that along as well.

Castor gum
I too find normal UK petrol will free off and clean a gummed up glow engine, given time.
I use neat petrol in a jar that will take the engine and submerge the engine in petrol.
I use minimum amount of petrol, all done outside. Agitation helps, you can see the bits of castor.
I filter and reuse the petrol untill spent.
It's amazing that on a second soaking, engine removed, apparently clear petrol left in the clean jar overnight, to see a good layer if "sediment" that has "dropped out" !
Heat is good at softening castor gum, I use an electric heat gun.
I use minimum cleaning of the cylinder and piston.
A ball race bearing may suffer from "pitting" or "etching" of the balls and races meaning new bearings.
Check on sceptre flight site for engine details like prop driver etc..
Note, some Enya engines have a "fully floating rotated" piston.
Once back together I run engine at low revs rich on small tank, then an other tank leaner, then final run tank, engine "on song" for 5 seconds or so. Lube up and bag ready for model.
If you are trashing engines, send some my way, Cox td09 RC with silencer please...
It's a bit "criminal" in my view trashing an engine because it's dirty, gummed or even solid....

Tomorrow is trash day here. There will be several two stroke engines in the trash.
Most have been offered for free locally already. No takers.
"Criminal" ?
LOL!
