Question Glow Plug with Idle Bar for OS 46AX II & OS 50SX

Hi Everyone
I have just finished building a DH Chipmunk and the engine will be mounted inverted for authenticity.
My choice of engine is the OS 46AX or 50SX Ringed.
The question is, Can these engines accommodate glow plugs with an Idle Bar? or will they damage the piston?
I have about half a dozen of Idle Bar Plugs from ages ago which I'd like to try and use up and plus I've heard inverted engines are a bugger to idle with un-shielded G/Plugs.
Any advise would be much appreciated.

I have run these engines for years inverted without any idle bars. Try them without first. Getting enough air through for proper cooling is going to be your biggest concern with the narrow cowl

Thanks, will do.
But just out of interest, can these motors use plugs with idle bars or will they encroach on the Piston head?

Most Schnürle scavenged (modern) engines can use idle bar plugs without issue. The engines in question will accept them just fine. That said, in a pinch, you can remove the idle bar in most cases as most idle bars are spot welded onto the plug body. The only plugs I’ve had in my hands that weren’t easily removed are the Fox idle bar plugs.

Just to add in regard to idle bar plugs - I find they work quite well in 4-stroke engines. I prefer Enya 3 plugs in my 4-strokes, but idle bar plugs (Fox brand in particular) work equally as well - very little difference in overall performance.
