Default RE: Supercharger for a 2-stroke

None of you guys ever saw the OS 1.2 roots type supercharged engine?
I reworked a few of these abominations
The setup was simply weird
They simply use a fixed compression and glow plug as did the 72 Saito mentioned above AND the Achilles Heel was -of course - the fact that as the engine revved the pressure set the ignition point further ahead - (advanced it )
Low nitro fuel, did not help
I simply hogged out the heads as much as practical and used nitro (broader adjustment of needle)
The real fix would have been timed spark ignition.
I ran a 51 Olds - (1n 1957) with a 371 GMC blower and a Vertex mag and dual pipes - It was fast.
I also learned thru busted pistons --how to setup the mag etc..
A Roots blower is really a so so car setup -compared against good turbo setups or centifrugal setups
The are fine for industrial engines (we used GMC airbox engines in the army , sorry contraptions ---)
Anyway for two strokers - the best power to weight setup for power is proper tuned induction and exhaust - and it can be smooth as silk.
We also reworked a YS supercharged setup --with a long plenum facing into the intake valve port.
It did increase pressure -in the plenum but the valve setup would not feed enough and power gain was only moderate.
These things could and did hold 5 lbs PSI in the plenum
On my Olds I ran 12 PSI in the manifold.
This is puny compared against the F I setups -- of course.

I believe everything I read on the internet. I also believe in Superman,
Yoga, and all the wild claims made by the Euros. I also believe that a '51
Olds was just as ugly, and insignificant as the '49.

For those who took exception to my spelling of ROOTS:
Type in "roots" on any decent search engine.

Dick:

Roots/Rootes - I've been wrong before, but since it is the man's name there's no question that it should be capitalized.

As in original inventors' name?
The "roots type blower" is a generic now.
Same thing happens for lots of well know products; fridgidair- originally a trademarked name -Frigidaire --ditto for Kleenex /Kotex etc.. but why even mention it?
the discussion was about surercharged engines , it wasn't a spelling bee
Or was it ?
I should have stayed out of it.

Dick:

Sorry, no offense intended. My preference is to capitalize where indicated, and I don't think "Roots" has become a generic term yet where blowers are concerned. While "Kleenex" has become a generic so far as casual conversation is concerned, Kimberly-Clark will still object if you don't use a capital "K" when you write the word.

For myself, I buy "Kleenex" in 1000 sheet rolls.

Haw.

Stick around, your presence is appreciated.

Bill.
