Default What .46 to .53 engine / brand

For my first motorplane (until now I just flew gliders....) I need a motor in the
range of .46 to .53.

I would appreciate some hints on the motor to buy.

What I was looking at was os, irvine, gms, mvvs, super tigre, fox, magnum.....
I would prefer an american or european made engine...

Thanks for your help

I sure love my Irvine .53. Never given me a second's trouble, starts easily with a flip of the prop, tremendous power, and it looks cool!

MY vote too, Irvine .53 totally reliable and runs like a larger engine.

I was totally thrilled with my Irvine 53 last year, it was my most flown engine/plane combo. (had it on a profile fun fly). Many hours of reliable use and it is getting better with every hour running it seems!

Cannot miss with the Irvine-53, I have flown ALL types of airplanes with that engine and I am more impressed with every application!

Runs great on 0%-5% and is possibly the easiest engine to tune that I have had-

You may also look at the TT Pro-46, bang for your buck factor is high!

Good luck,

Another vote for Irvine 53. I have one in my Magic Extra 300L. There's not much of a wait while it goes vertical a few hundred feet for a killer blender. Pulls it around really strong.

Make it 7 of 7 for the Irvine. Yeah, it'll cost a little more than some of the OS *clones*, but to me, it's worth every penny. Easy to start, reliable and powerful. You can't go wrong with an Irvine.

The Irvine .53 has the advantage of being a very tractable engine. You can use it as a hotrod with a 10x6 or 10x8 or put a 12x6 three blade or 13x6 two blade on it and fly well over 20 minutes on a 14 oz tank. The big props don't overload it nor do they make it run hot.

This is getting repetitous (joking) have 4 irvine 53s in the airplane stable
and a 46 (brain dead moment) should have gotten the 53 but still a great engine

Hey Chris,

Did you see the 'collector' version of this engine is available ? It is black instead of maroon....

Stated : "Collectable 'Limited Edition' (200 in batch) Irvine .53...... (anthracite coloured casing)"

A bit more expensive, but :
1) Rear needle valve
2) what a look !
3) Prop nut included
