Default Saito 4 Stroke Glow plug threads.

I need help. I messed up the threads on the engine where the glow plug screws in on my Saito 56. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem without costing me a fortune. Thanks in advance. [&o]

You have to send the jug to a guy in California by the name of Clarence Lee. Its about $13. Find his address with the search function.

The threads are 1/4"-32. The 32 threads per inch is what causes the problem. US coarse threads are 1/4-20 and the fine standard is 1/4-28.

Enjoy,

Jim

Or, you may be able to buy a helicoil set at your local industrial tool supply shop. Not Sears, but a real tool shop. Do a search for "helicoil" here on RCU and you'll find lots of good information.

If you were to buy a Heli Coil set for 1/4"-32, you would have to buy several (like at least a dozen) to get one. It's more cost effective to lick your wounds and have Clarence do it.

The Saito is $15 unless you send him the whole engine and then it's $27.50

How messed up are the threads? You may be able to get by with running a tap through to "chase" the threads if you didn't run the glow plug in all the way. If so, you'll have to do the Clarence Lee thing. A 1/4"-32 tap cost about $8-$10 bucks I believe?

Saito's have Little, to no champher on start of the hole and I find it a bit tricky myself to start the thread. A lot of guy's have run into the same problem and end up stripping the threads.

Jim, if you're interested. It's 1/4"-32 National Extra Fine (NEF). It is a standard pitch thread, but a bit of an odd ball. Maybe classified in the "Miniature Screw Thread" catagory, I'm not sure?

Happy Fly'n....
