Default Best Engine for RV-4 Great Planes

What is the best engine to put on an RV-4 .40?

FOUR STROKE or TWO STROKE?

Thanks, Carlos

Jerry:

Is your RV-4 slow with that engine?

Thanks, Carlos

It is very scale-like and quiet. With a 2-stroker I'm sure it would be more aerobatic, but I love the way it flys - very SOLID and smooth-like.

At full throttle, it can get up and go at a respectable speed....but I'm sure a .40 sized Stik would pass it in the homestrech!

I would put an OS 70 surpass II on it. I was going to build this airplane and have the afformentioned engine. I decided on the Great planes ultimate instead. If you want the scale sound throw an exhaust diverter on the muffler, or go with the pitts muffler set up. The 70 will give you plenty of power, and will also give you a nice scale sound. Thats my 2 cents

I'm unaware of a 4 cylinder that'll fit the RV-4.

I'm flying mine with a Magnum .46 XL 2 stroke, with pitts muffler. It's great.

HI! I have a plane similar than your rv4 (Super Sporster) size 40 and I have a 70 surpass in mine this (IMO)
is a great combo w unlimited vertical , nice put put put sound, the 52 4 strokes is a little weak for this plane
but if you want to fly it scale its a good choice.............

If I ever build one I want to use a YS-63 or a Saito .82. I think the Saito would be good because it is lighter and stronger than a .70 Surpass.

Saito 82 is much strong than 70 surpass but he dont need more power IMO, the little OS 70 Surpass can easily give to him unlimited vertical with a 5 lbs plane
