Everything Radial Engines

My Feedback: (24)

I guess I was thinking of the Europeans, where it seems nitro is a very expensive commodity and so they use a lot of FAI 0% or low 5-10% nitro fuels. These engines seem more popular in EU than they do here in the USA.
I just got two props in the mail today. A MA 18-10 and 20-8. I will be breaking in my ASP FS400AR radial shortly. I am going to use FAI fuel and see how it goes.

I have been dying to know if the AR400 would be a good fit on the Aeroworks Stearman! Thank you for posting the pictures!
Please, Please, Please: take some video when you fly this model and post it for us to see and hear.
BTW: is that a Keleo exhaust? Whatever, it looks great!

The Keleo exhaust has a pressure nipple built in on the back side. I connect it to the tank vent after filling the tank since the fuel line is hard to reach behind the motor to fill the tank. I sent some pics to Kmot in response to an e-mail I recieved through rc universe. In addition to the pressure tap Keloe can build in a smoke fitting, my friend has one on order for a OS MAX 3.0 5-cyl.

Hello,
I put the prop and rpm figures of my engines in a txt file, as a start of a data collection. So everybody, who brakes his engine in, can add the rpm figures of his engine and post the file again. So we can get a good, reliable collection and we can choose the best model / engine combination.
I hope everybody will get profit of this.

Hello SJN,
I think I've seen a commercial advertise in one of our model magazines that also advertises the 215cc Moki, I'll search and tell You then I think tomorrow.

wow, really impressive, especially the scale method of reducing the rpm by cutting of the ignition. Three months ago I saw such a LeRhone engine, I mean full scale, at the german MECA meating in Ungstein. It reved up to 1200rpm and it ran really silently, I think bcause it has no valve overlap. It was one of the last engines of the war and had a relatively modern carburetor, so it could idle at about 300rpm with constant ignition.
By the way, SJN, do You want a gas engine? Because Seidel also has 7 cilinder engines with about 250ccm, I think.

Yes, I absolutly have to own a gas radial.
I have fallen in love with the Moki 250.
So im saving up.
I have been reading alot, and it seems that poeple like the 5 cylinder better, than a 7 cylinder, because it aparently sounds better. You can hear the cylinders igniting better with fewer cylinders.
Also 50cc pr cylinder in the moki instead of 36cc in a siedel gives it a deeper sound..........thats what I have read anyway...... I have never heard one in real life.
Where can you buy seidels in europe ?

You can buy them directly from Wolfgang Seidel, Königsberger Strasse 10, D-76316 Malsch, phone 0041(germany?)-7246-2210.
I think, You are right with the sound when the engune is idling, but I've hered a 180cc 7 cylinder in a Messerschmidt M35 with bout 120 inch span, that had a very, very deep sound with a collector of big volume. I think the scale sound is caused by the gasoline, that has more internal energy than methanol, so it sounds more agressive. On the other hand the Seidels doen't idle very smooth, so they have a scaly sound during idle.
But here in Germany there is a company, Becker Elektronik, who makes spark ignitions for radials. To my experiance You can convert every glow engine to gas, the only problem is the hotter combustion of gas, but I tried the conversion with an oS FS120 and an OS 60 two stroke, and both engines worked with the original carb and everything. Of course, You have to run about 15% oil, I used Castrol scooter two stroke oil.
