I have been following the thread and have learned much about radials. I have an ASP 400 thatI have been bench running for several months now. It runs fine butI have contiuned to have a problem starting the engine cold. Once it does start andhas been run and warmed up it restarts fine. I have tried different combinations of throttle and prining. I am using byrons 15% fuel and type f glow plus powered by 15 amps of 1.5 volt nicads. I have always hand proped to start. Do most of you use elelctric starters or hand proping? Mybe I need to buy a good electric starter for cold starts? Any help would be apreciated. Thanks

Yes it can be difficult to start in cold winter weather , i use an electric starter now after having some cancelled flights because it wouldnt start when i did not have el. start. In the summer it is easier to flip start.

I forgot to mention that I received my Seidel 7-70 from UMS. I ordered it direct from them after a series of emails. I believe the new US Dist is Horizon Hobby and not Tower Hobby. Dec 15 is supposed to be the effective date of the contract.
We shall see when and with whom it takes effect!
I don't have fuel yet so that's something else to attend to. Plus a 1.5 volt batter for all the glow plugs..

It took about a week and a half to receive it. This engine was made in june of this year according to the info etc. provided with the engine.
Money was via credit card and was a "non" issue.
I don't know why hobbyking has them on back order unless they haven't ordered them yet or havent received a shippment after ordering.
UMS does have them in stock.

very interesting. page 6 of manual warns of hydrolock "when the engine is fixed with the circular silencer" is this a result of exhausted fuel hanging out in the bottom of the ring?? Happy new year to all

Page six says that hydralock is possible IF you essentially Over Choke the engine with an electric starter. It states if you plug the exhaust ring or carb with the thumb. and use and electric starter, you can over fuel the engine (flood) and cause a problem.

Happy New Year all. I found a fuel supplier in Az who sells 100% Methanol fuel by the gallon. It's 99.95 % pure. There is NO oil added and NO shipping charges.
So you can order 1 or 2 gallons if prefered. They recommend Klotz oil so you can mix your oil content to suit your specific needs.
They may, in the future, offer premixed fuel but that's to be determined.

The fuel is $18 and change per gallon but with NO hazmat fee and NO shipping charges, I think it's a reasonable deal.

I usually find a local speed shop; they'll sell methanol by the sealed 5-gallon pail. Used to be all of $30, but these days and depending on the market maybe you'll pay as much as $60. Still only $12 a gallon. Got me into the habit of saving old gallon fuel jugs for when I break into a new pail!

BobH, actually there are quite a few shops around NOVA. There used to be a good one in Manassas, I can't remember the name right now. Any of the shops that specialize in serious turbo or supercharger installs will have access to methanol since methanol injection is pretty popular with those cars. I don't how far you want to drive, but Maryland Internationl Raceway in Budd's Creek sells methanol for $4.00 a gallon. I do not know if they sell fuel during the off season.
S&W Fuels will sell straight methanol, but not sure if the 5 case minimum applies. He will also custom blend what you want at no charge. They are in Tatamy, PA, so it might not too far of a drive, esp if several of you Seidel Radial guys go in together.
