I received the Microsens on board glow system today. I am running out of excuses now, I guess it is time to get busy and complete the build of my ASP 400 radial engine powered CMP Zero.

Best wishes and Good Safe Flying!

The glow driver looks nice. Do they have a US sales web site?

Hey smkrcslyer, I don't think that Micorsens has a distributor in the USA. You can purchase their items from their web site at: http://www.microsens.at/

Hi,
I finally had a flight test of my old Great Planes Fokke DR1 Read Baron, with the new 7-35 engine, used to fly with an OS 91 four stroke.
This engine runs really sweet, lots more power than the small OS, but had to bolt a bit of lead to the tailskid.
I also have the Microsense glow system with the balancing terminal that provides more juice to the lower cylinders.
See: http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=plcp&v=KUmfH3YO9As
http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=plcp&v=nKloZplc59E

Thanks for looking.

I received my Keleo exhaust for my Saito 450 radial engine yesterday and made some good progress on the Gilmore build today. The exhaust was mounted to the engine and the engine installed into the plane.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

Has anyone tried the on board glow system from Valley View? Says it will run up to 5 plugs. Its very small and inexpensive.

Got my new glow driver from VV will post some picture later.

I have an older Saito 325R5 with one plug per cylinder. I got this on a bi-plane and it looks like it was run but not much. I would like to try starting it but I’m not sure what fuel to use. I use 15% nitro Heli fuel in all my other 4 stroke engines because it has more oil in it for cooling and it works good. Would this fuel be OK to use in the 325R5?

Your 325 will run great on 15% nitro. I use 15% nitro and 16% oil but it will run OK on oil up to 20%. Use OS type F plugs for best results. I recommend a 20x10 prop. Make sure you flush it out with airtool oil after running to prevent corrosion!!!! -Tom

I flew my Segull Sea Fury powered by my Saito 200 three cylinder radial engine to remind me how much I love my radials. I had am awsome time today, the flights were great. I can't hardly wait to complete my CMP Zero powered by the ASP 400 five cylinder radial engine.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

Tom, both the Saito 450 powered BH Gilmore Red Lion and the ASP 400 powered CMP Zero are nearing completion. I think the Gilmore will get done first because I am struggling with how to connect the throttle and glow system on the Zero.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

Progress is on my Gilmore Red Lion racer powered by a Saito 450 radial engine is continuing at a snails pace. Some day I will suprise everyone, including myself and get this project done.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

You have a long way to go. Pilot "R. Turner" has to grow a mustache for the project to be truly scale. The reason that this is so important is if my memory of history is correct Rosco was the only one ever to pilot the Gilmore. Great job!!! George

I'm looking for a 1.2volt regulator for my glow driver. Does anyone know who makes one?

I though I had the 450 Saito radial engine ready on the Gilmore to run but I ran into a little snag. I could not get the Microsens glow system to light the plugs today. I will need to do a little trouble shooting and see if I can get it operating properly.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

I found the problem with the Microsens on board glow system today. The problem was with a bad T connector. I guess I used too much heat when soldering the connector because plastic melted and kept the connector from making electrical contact. Eveything is working great now. I am very close to running the engine but should do some other minor small things like fuel proofing, rechecking control throws, tighten the covering and etc.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

There's a build thread in the warbird form here's the link there is also one other one that is in the warbird form. There are a couple people that are in fairly good contact with the owner of the website. A lot of feedback in those threads.

Why use a glow driver when CDI will give you about 6% more power 20% better fuel economy, less oily mess, easier starting, lower reliable idle & overall better user friendlyness.

I got my Saito 450 radial engine powered Gilmore Red Lion racer running for the first time today. I shot a very poor short video of it running http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkH7V...ature=youtu.be. Sorry for the poor quality but I could not see the screen in the bright sun light. I picked up this engine used in a trade with one of my club members. He tells me this engine has never been in a plane and only has about six bench runs. The engine ran pretty well but does need some run time and some fine tuning. One disappointing thing though was one of the cylinder mounting bolts on cylinder number one that attaches the cylinder to the crankcase broke during the initial runs. I think it is going to be a real pain to remove and replace the broken bolt. I am just an old big kid that is tickled with his new toys.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

That's odd that a cylinder base bolt broke under any circumstances.

The way it broke almost looks like it was bottomed out & twised off. Vibratiob from tghe engine running made the piece fall out.

You might have the same issue when you replace the bolt. make sure you check the length of the bolt against the depth of the hole.

If the engine is under warranty, I would contact Horizon.

Here is my current work in progress - CMP Zero powered by an ASP 400 five cylinder radial, Microsens on board glow system with balancer and Kelco Exhaust ring. This project is moving forward but progress is slow. Someday, I may even finish it. One thing for sure, I will do some serious pre-oiling of the engine before it runs for the first time.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

Default RE: Everything Radial Engines

I could not get the other bolts out of number one cylinder on my Saito 450 radial engine. There seems to be some serious lock tight on those bolts. I went ahead today and did another test run, broken bolt and all. I got the engine tuned much better and it is now probably ready for fly. I was getting 6,450 rpm with a APC 22 x 10 prop on the static run. The engine will probably unload in the air and run a bit higher rpm and the engine will gain a little more rpm as it breaks in more. I am not really happy with flying the engine with one bolt broken on cylinder number one but the alternative is to remove the engine and send it to Horizon or take it to a machine shop. I will keep a close eye on the engine and see how this works out.

Best wishes and good safe flying.
