Aluminum Overcast, yes, my engine is just 3 hours (of runing in) old, it has, sometimes, a bad misfire at more than half throttle and minimum safe idle speed is not below 2000 rpm. Max rpm with a 18''x10'' prop is about 5.000 when running without misfire, so the same as with Your engine. Does Your engine loose the compression too, when it's warm?

AO, my 170's are close fit to the cowl as well. I talked with some folks at horizon and some friends that have had engines that are right up against the cowllings and asked if there was any issue with that setup. I got a no from my resources. I was concerned that I may get a heat build up in the rocker arm cover or a hot spot on the cowl, however in looking at the size of the opening and the amount of air that will be going thru the cowl, I should not have any worries.
I too am a fan of the Solo prop and will be picking up a pair for the Tigercat. They are great props and hubs!.
Now if I can convince myself that the Sierra Precison retracts are worth getting - I know they are well made - its the 2/3 rd the cost of the kit that still gets me for the retracts..

asp 400R
Is this the same size as the OS 5cyl Radial??
where did you find that one?
and what was the cost??
Also... I have a Solo prop for my Giant p-51 and a DA 50.... It is awsome....
COmes perfectly balanced too!!
I have not flown it yet, so I can not comment on the prop in-flight performance, but on the ground it seems awsome!

KMP makes some really nice retracts for The TigerCat. I have a friend who has those on his and they look quite good. Did you see those?

As for the Zero:There is a great thread on the CMP Zero here at RCU. It features a guy that is reworking one he has flown for some time. He says it flies well and warrants the addition of scale detail. I think this plane will weigh in around 17 to 20 lbs (I'll probably be on the heavy side as I plan full cockpit, reworked and corrected split flaps and gear) but I'm not exactly sure as I'm still gathering the hardware for it and working to squeeze 1 flight on the spit before the snow flies here in Michigan. Up north (up state) they are getting 5 to 10 inches all ready tonight.

Regarding the RCV 120: Again, there is the RCV forum where you can speak directly with a tech on engine performance issues, prop suggestions etc. they seem to be very responsive there as well as knowledgeable about everything RCV. They do say this engine takes a long time to break in and they suggest nylon 20X12 prop for break in. Most of the guys flying 2 blades say it seems to perform best with that prop length and pitch. The heavier mass of the nylon seems to even out the stroke. Perhaps that is what is causing the missing you describe I didn't see that with my engine on the test stand with the 20X12 master airscrew or the Solo prop 4 blade (wood Blades but heavier aluminum hub creating a fly wheel effect). The idle was pretty good too for a new engine. Stock muffler and header was used with 10% Omega and OS type F plug.

Back to Seidel ST770 :-)
Could anyone please tell me the correct hight for the fuel tank vs carb hight..?
On my test stand, I have the tank slightly higher than the carb, and I notice that the fuel is
"leaking" through the carb, when the engine is not running. (over night the tank was empty)...
Any thoughts... I have the manual, but my German reading is not all that good :-)
Best regards...

I have an English manual in PDF format if you are interested. Regarding the tank location, it says:
"FITTING THE TANK
The centre line of the tank should be in line with the centre of the carburettor (needle). A 750mI tank is sufficient for an approx. 20 to 25 minutes full throttle run."
I can also check a standard manual when I have better access.

Hey Sandman,
I sent you an email with the PDF, and I will reply to the group when my "empty engine" purchas has been sorted out.
In short, paypal has decided to refund only 500 Euro of my 1,470 Euro purchase. "Up to $2,000 in buyer protection" is just a marketing sticker for all of those eBay sales. It is really only $2,000 if ALL conditions are perfect (i.e. domestic seller, et al.).
A seller from the US who buys from Germany will NEVER be protected for more than 500 Euros. There's a ton of fine print to consider when buying or selling using Paypal.... Each country is different, but the sticker will ALWAYS say "Up to $2000 in Buyer Protection" if the user has 50 positive feedbacks and is over ninety-something percent positive on their rating.....
The seller appealed the decision about a month ago and it is still under paypal review. It's been a frustrating experience, but I'll give a full report here when the drama has completely unfolded.

Anyone ever heard of a "Penta 85" or "Penta 102" five cylinder radial engine?

Could these radial engines be used in r/c aircraft? I think they could! After all, Moki make a 400cc radial already. Well, here are some unusual two-stroke radial engines that I believe could be suitable for those monster sized "Le Ferte" airplanes. And in any case, they are interesting. Who ever heard of a 4-cylinder radial before?
