Is your mixture too rich? What fuel are you using? Is it old? My 400 is still in the break in period so it's set so rich it won't run without battery juice going to the glow plugs, even at full throttle. As it breaks in I'll slowly begin to lean out the high speed for just under max RPM.

The glow plugs are new (enya 3) ,the high speed needle is set at about 3 turns , it may be running a little rich . I will try to adjust the needles and see if it get better.
The fuel is new and fresh ( 15% nitro )

Warmer weather makes a big difference when my 325R Saito run.

The Radials are like big heat sinks.

It does not get very hot ,so it looks like it is well cooled. The cylinders does not get as hot as single cylinder engines.. Maybe it will be better when i put the cowl on. Well ,i better get out and adjust the engine!

I have an OS 5300 and bought the exhaust ring that "goes with it" from Tower hobbies. I can't get the thing on without bending some of the pipes. Anyone ever put one of these things on?? Any advice??
Many thanks

I took a look inside after reading reports of others having connecting rod linkpin failures. And I found one of my linkpins had broken. So it was eventually going to fail. I am in a slow process of overhauling the engine when I get around to it:

Hi,

I am a partner in a venture capital firm and we would like to display some classic examples of outstanding engineering in our office. Do 18 cylinder scale models ever come up for sale? Or, can they be commissioned? Or other exotic engine models (V-12's, Offy's, etc.) I understand that I am talking about serious money here, and that these are works of art.

I will be at the NAMES exposition on April 19, in case anyone wants to get together there.
Thanks very much,

Andy Grubbs

Andy,

To my knowledge, there is nothing offered in an 18 cylinder double row radial engine.

The closest that you may find is the 500cc Seidel ST-14-500. It is a double row 14 cylinder Seidel engine and I believe that it is currently available overseas for $6000 euro, or about $9,250 USD. You might try top-collect.de for more information.

Here is the link. http://top-collect.de/cms.asp?NoRese...kategorie=5912

The only 18 cylinder that I can think of, would be the Hodgson 18, but they are about as common as hens teeth. Any that might be in existance would have been created by the home shop machinist, so if indeed you ever would find one, then it may not have the polish and refinement that you are looking for. www.ageless-engines.com

I hope that this helps,
--->Steve

... Also, you will likely find an interesting multicylinder engine on ebay every 2-4 weeks. Replica Engines made a 1/4 scale offy. Also a Knuclehead, Curtis and various others. Again.... they are sold out might come up on eBay a couple times per year. (Ususlly for about 5K).
Commissioning someone to do the work is not practical, as folks might spend upward of 2,500-4,000 hours building one of these engines. Most end up as family heirlooms but again, they do pop up from time to time.

Thanks very much for the information!

I probably need to take out a few ads to let folks know I am in the market for these items. I am sure that somewhere out there is a master machinist with a fabulous model who dreads giving it to unappreciative children or grandchildren and could use the cash. It may take a while, but I will keep looking!

I have an OS 5300 sitting on an Aeroworks Stearman. Any recommendations for a spinner or prop hub for the engine?
Thanks

I second that regarding Solo Props. I have a 4 bade on my Spitfire from them and it is awesome workmanship and scale realism.

Hey AO, does that 4 blade prop pull well? It looks like the scale blades. If it is, try to get us an overall view. Thanks

This model is still in the works so the prop has not flown. It has been run on the RCV engine and seems to pull quite well......Being able to dial in more pitch is great for using all the power the engine can make. I did make sure the engine is below it's recommended max rpm to account for it unloading in flight so I'm about 5,600. Max for this engine at the prop is 6,000.

The prop blades are wood and are pre balanced and painted by carl at Solo Props. The profile for the blades are for the Spitfire, he can cut any profile upon your request. Nice guy to deal with.

Where did you hear that from? Oh, and the engines are manufactured by Sanye, the same company that makes RCV.

KMOT, Isn't RCV made in the UK? Or are they a UK company who outsourced their manufacturing to China? I thought that Sanye makes the Magnum, ASP and SC engines. Are there others too?

I just checked the Sanye website and it looks like the FS400AR is still listed. Of course, I don't think that they have updated their website in 3 years and the english site was never completed. Navigating the Chinese pages are pretty rough.

I'll list the website for reference, but I don't think that it will do anybody much good.... http://www.sanyemodel.com/

I once had my wife look at the website for me, but things like 2 vs. 4 cycle, bore, stroke, etc. don't mean much to her so I didn't get much feedback from her. (It's kind of like transating a law book).

All righty now... I have a couple of Saito 170's for a F7F Tigercat I am in the process of building. As much as I'd like to use Keleo again, I think I may do a home grown exhaust for these engines. So in the simplest terms would copper/brass tube work as well as the bendy-pipe? I want to run the exhaust to the bottom of the nacelle where there is a scale exhaust cutout. Keleo's are great I have it on my Seidel, just looking for s less costly solution this time.

Thanks

The Evolution 2 stroke engines are made there too.
