Everything Radial Engines

Steve, RCV model airplane engines are manufactured by Sanye in China. From the get go. Although RCV liked to have people believe otherwise. However, a little sleuthing brought out the truth and they have not disputed it.

Like I said, I have been looking for one for quite a while[
]
The Distributors will confirm that the engine has been discontinued for a while. No one in the US has them. I spoke to Just Engines a few months ago and they still had them in stock. I got a written quote of roughly 1150 US. Interesting that KMOT couldnt get any basic parts from em though. Wonder what kinda supply the German distributor has on hand?
Tryin to open negotiations with the fella on RCU but he hasnt been on line in several days.

It is interesting about RCV. They talk about parts centers in the UK and US on their brochures, but nothing I could find about them being made in china. Your other post says it all, though. RCV looks like a UK company selling Chinese motors at UK prices.
Also interesting about the evolution engines.
(Sorry, back on topic)
I was looking for my Magnum/ASP/SC radial for quite some time too. I missed out on the good old days when the folks on eBay were selling them with no reserve and letting them go for about $670. As I was looking lateley, I couln't find them anywhere either.
I finally bought mine about 2-3 months ago, but picked it up off of a guy in Australia from eBay. It was NIB but a private owner second-hand sale. It was about US$700 + another $100 for shipping.
Isn't there one for sale right now here on RCU. http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=381045
Interesting too is Bold Piolot's comments where he said "Checked Magnum's web site and engine is no longer available. I called distributor and they said it was discontinued a while ago. They don't stock any parts and don't have a 80cc engine where you can swap parts around if a cyl went to lunch. So you are on your own for parts. "
If the motor is discontinued and there are not .80 engines/piston/rings for sale, it might be a little scarry to buy one now.
If it is indeed true, I wonder why they discontinued them.

Yep, kinda scary. Parts supply already drying up. IIRC at least KMOT was able to source his parts from the German distributor. And like I said, Im working on the one for sale here but the guy hasnt been on line for several days and cant get a reply. On well, patience and perserverance!

So in the simplest terms would copper/brass tube work as well as the bendy-pipe?
Thanks

Well,
If you have a ASP (china made who ever)..... perhaps it is best to try and get as many spare parts as nessisary?
I am not sure what the size of the cyls. (bore) perhaps it is the same as a current single engine that they still produce? At least that wouldn't be
a issue....
I hate to say it, but this is why I stick with OS or saito, on a exspensive purchase such as this would be....
Other hand. 1000$ or less is much less than a 2000$ radial OS engine!...... BIg diff...
And Most of YOu will never put so much fuel through one of these engines that you will ware them out!.......
I wouldn't worry about it!....

The Sanye manufactured ASP/Magnum FS400AR radial engine probably can use parts from the Sanye manufactured ASP/Magnum FS-160 twin.

I just noticed something curious and thought that I should mention it. I was just at the Tower Hobbies website and saw that the price on the FR5-300 was lowered from the previous $1999 down to $1899.
So it''s still not near the previous $1499, but it''s a start anyway, right? I imagine that they are not selling many after bumping the price up $500, or 33% in one shot. I''d like to think that it is a function of the devaluation of the dollar vs. the greed factor. (but it still hurts)

the dollar hasn''t devaluated that much, shipping and fuel costs either but the law of supply and demand......that has a bigger impact. I would also say that the chineese copies can and will drive the costs up. I think it is kind of a reverse psychology thing....I am not a financial genius , but I did sleep at a holiday inn central last nite.

Dharrell, regarding the exhaust ring fit on the OS. I found i had to do a little bit of tweaking to get the exhaust ring on but it was no problem as the headers were flexible enough. only had make small angle adjustments. DWR.

Hello everybody,
my name is Andrea Zambon, I'm from Italy and I've been following this thread for a long time (albeit only as a reader).
I really like these small multi cylinder engines and, more in general, any engine that's not the usual single cylinder two or four stroke (this menas: I like Wankels too
).
As such, I currently own a Saito twin (90TS), and an OS Wankel (49 PI type I), as far as interesting engines are concerned.
Now, I'm planning to get an OS FR5-300 Sirius radial sooner or later, so, as I was surfing the [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBY70&P=SM]tower hobbies website[/link], I decided to take a look at the spare parts available for this engine. There I discovered that several of these spare parts are marked as "Discontinued". The engine itself is not listed as discontinued, but this discovery had me worried. I tried to confirm this on the Graupner website, but currently the whole OS four stroke section is down (!). So I went to the [link=http://www.os-engines.co.jp/english/index.htm]main OS website[/link] and found nothing indicating that the radial is going out of production (it's even listed in the 2008 catalog, although this may not be completely up to date) I even tried to check the japanese web page, but that didn't help either.
So the question is: is the OS Sirius radial going to be discontinued anytime soon? Or am I just paranoid
?
Finally, I apologize for all the mistakes I've surely made in writing the above post. I try to do my best at writing in english, but it's not that easy...
