For your Magnum/ASP/SC radial hunters, one just hit here on RCU. Looks like a great buy at $600 with a carbon fiber prop too!

And no... I'm not affiliated... just keeping a watchful eye for those folks who have expressed a recent interest.

And yes... KMOT... I sort of am quivering right now. You may not have known this, but I work for an automotive supplier and my budget is being forcibly tightened, so it make the Robart pill a little hard to swallow... but I really do want that engine!

Hello Guys

I just stumbled across this thread and have a question. I just got a traded a guy my carden cap for a Saito 450 radial. I don't really like glow but this is one sweet sounding engine. I need a good recommendation on what is an GREAT plane to put this bad boy in. I also need a recommendation on what is a GREAT plane to put the 3W 256STR5/4T in. I am looking for Aerobatic plane suggestions as well as warbird suggestions for both engines.

Thanks
Lawrence

Hi

The 450 is sounding great absolutely! I know they have used it in the TopFlite Giant Corsair , also i read about one having success with it in a H9 Carden Yak 89" http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/f...ak-arf-h9.html

Good luck

it was just a page about 89" h9 carden Yak , but since the link doesnt work , you could go to h9`s homepage , or simply google the plane

Regarding the 3w 250cc radial , the plane must be big i think! bigger than anything i`ve been looking at so far. Something like a 50% Pitts 12 would maybe fit.

OK.. I have to ask. I've been oogling the 256STR5 for years now. Last I heard, it was a concept that had not gone into production. Has this changed? Is it now available? Is there a price tag to go with it now? It is a superb looking creation, that 3W.

Cybertom, good to see you're still in the mix! Sell the Robart and move to the light side! the St710 has yet to fail me on the bench, I can only say it will continue to reun well in the air. Sputz has been flying them and has not had any reports of falure.

I have redone the struts setup on the Stearman and feel it'll hold much better and I have decided that as much as I wanted to do the scale detail thing with full cockpit and all- I am not. I just want to fly the bird. If I get the detail itch I'll get a boat in a bottle modeller to install the cockpit :-).

So that means I'll be finishing the Stearman as a flying model not a scale one. Will you still fly with me Cybertom? No one will know the pilot was too drunk to fly on that day!

Steve

I was wrong. Here is the response that I got from Peter at 3W

"Dear Mr. Collie,

our radial is not in production yet because to do it we have to invest Euro 150.000,00 which we dont have available right now. Our engine would fit our : BEARCAT and T-28.

Best regards

Peter Wintrich"

Anyone has 150,000.00 Euro to invest in 3W? I need this engine!!!

....and as much as I love the sentiment, you can forget that price. If he DOES finally get it to production, it will probably run around 4000-5000US.

This is for anyone interested in buying an OS 4 cylinder inline (I know, it's not a radial )

I just noticed that Tower lowered the price of this engine to 1999$, cutting its price by 200$. It is the same price of the OS 5 cylinder radial. If someone is interested in buying one of these, it could be the right moment to do so (I received an e-mail with the discounts, stating that these would last till February 15).

Radial.

Yep, the right time because in light of this economy it will be $4,000.00 one year from now and it will be by special order only.

That is indeed a good price for this engine as it originally was priced at $2499 here in the USA at Tower Hobbies. Factor in the additional coupon savings currently in effect ($60 for club members) and you can buy it for $1939 a savings of $560 from not too long ago.

back to the radials:

I spoke to Mr.Seidel from Seidel engines on the toy fair in Nuernberg.

He will start selling his 70ccm engine from Mai this year for a price of EUR 1.000.-

The engines will be produced in India from now on. Production in Germany is to expensive.
His target is "radials for everybody".The big radials will be later this year switched to indian production.

Good news for ever potential radials owner I think.

pictures attached of the German version and the version designed in Germany

That is good news indeed. It means the Seidel will be affordable to many, many more consumers!

I wonder what that'll do to the value of the original "Built in Germany" Radials like my ST-710? Does anyone here know the QA/QC of Inda built engines? I am totally in the dark on that. I know they have lots of call centers tho...
