Default RE: Everything Radial Engines

Does anyone know if the carb from the OS Max 300 5 cylinder radial will fit the ASP-Magnum 400 5 cylinder engine? They look identical in photos. The ASP carb is rather crude compared to the OS Max carbs. The low end needle on mine does not bottom out but unscrews it self from the housing. If you try to adjust it two turns out as the manuel states the slit in the spray bar is still completely blocked. It takes 12-13 turns out to get the engine to start. The high speed needle is also difficult to adjust and need about 1/2 -3/4 turn to change RPMs. My problem is dropping cylinders in flight when the carb is open half way. The glow driver is off at this point, but the same occurs when the glow driver is on all the time. I have tried OS-F plugs and fox Miracle plugs. Props that I have tried include 19/8, 20/8 and 20/10. Fuel 15% and 30% nitro, 17-18% oil. Also I can't get the idle below 23-2400. Open to suggestions. Thanks

I would say it must be the idleneedle that is not correctly set , i just test ran my asp on my new plane , and it also loose a cylinder sometimes , and it gets better when i lean it a bit in on the idle needle. I will try to fly it soon , and can tell how it perform in the air.

There is a throttle stop screw who adjust how much closed the carb can be , have you checked it regarding your high idle?

Thanks for the suggestion. I have the barrel stop screw set so the barrel can completely close to stop the motor with the throttle kill setting on the transmitter.

This is my FW190 that i have the asp 400 r5 on , i testflew it yesterday and it flies very well , can land very slowly. The engine is also working well , it actually rained a bit but it was no problem.

The FW190 is epoxy fibreglass fuse and sheeted foam wings , it is based on a DPM 20% fw190 , but i have increased the wingspan to 85" , because i wanted to build it for sport / scale flying.

Kmot, I promised a while ago a picture of a warbird with the 400 magnum, well here it is. It is the Jack Devine Bearcat, I probably wont get it finished until spring. The JDM FW-190 and his other warbirds will probably fly this motor fine. It is designed for a 1.8 to 2.1 glow.......should have enuf power .

I have been watching Youtube videos of the mans gorgeous radial engines for many months now. I just realized he is putting his engines into production.

And, he will be selling a fully machined kit so you can assemble your own radial engine.

I have seen ads here in RCU market for that engine. He needs to get some into peoples hands. His ads were a little "off" probably from a translator program so I think most bypassed it as fake. I would love to see "kits" if the price was right.

No need to guess. On the manufacturer website, it says that the unique distributer of the engines is Moki Italia.

Just google moki italia, select English, then engines and SLEngines. Then you'll see the 3250 € price tag.

What I don't know is whether Moki Italia sells abroad too (well, that's not a problem for me... [:-])

Thank you for that Radial.

The price appears to be for the completed and assembled engine. The kit should be a fair amount less costly. Also, for anyone outside of EU the VAT is deducted from the price. I believe the VAT is 15%?

Good point: the VAT should be close to 20% and all prices reported on the moki italia website are "VAT included". So all non EU customers should spend something like 2600 € for the engine, plus shipping and other possible import taxes once it reaches destination.

On the other hand, I have no idea about the cost of the kit.

Im pretty sure that these were posted right here on RCU with an introductory price of $4,000 exhaust ring & other accessories extra. The ads made no mention of a kit that I recall.

Some good news: I just noticed that the price for the OS Il-300 inline has been lowered from $1939 to $1799 on Tower. I know it's not a radial, but I thought someone could be interested.
