HornetFitter: Remember that Mr. Seidel is talking in Euros...so your ring collector exhaust costs 150€ plus shipping....

Have you talked to Keleo creations?

Hey guys. Everyday the thought of a radial powered bird gets stronger!

There is a 9 cyl technopower radial on rcu right now that looks nice. What's the deal with technopower anyway? I went on the site and there 9 cyl produces 1.6 horse?

Anyone have experience with these engines? How do they sound? Any other info would be appreciated big time!

Thanks! Pete

That Technopower on RCU right now is not recommended for actual use. The shape of the front case cover suggests that it is the very first generation of Technopowers... Called the "Technopower Nine". It will have Piano wire for pushrods, and other characteristics that Marc Linville, the current owner of Technopower would seriously recommend that you NOT run it.

If you really want a Technopower 9C engine to run/use, Marc has (had?) some brand new 9Cs in stock for about $2900. They are made to modern specifications and he has hundreds of running hours on his two prototype engines. He starting rolling them off the line in '07 and they are very sharp engines... and they are not 30+ years old.

Hope this helps

Thanks Steve,

I'm slowly making my way through this thread. I am looking for a very pretty radial to use with a 85+" aerobatic plane. Sukhoi or Yak.

I was looking for 7 cylinders but now since Ive seen a 9 the bar has suddenly changed [:@] Don't you hate when that happens!

Basically Im looking for what ever sounds the meanest!

You can even get a twin row 14 cylinder...
You can try a youtube search to hear some of the different engines. One thing for certain, is they are ALL going to sound better in person.

Ok Guys. Im sure you guys have all been through what just happened to me about 10 minutes ago. I just watched Felix's video, Of his 7 cyl Seidel. I went on Hobby people and was astonished by the seemingly low price for the 9 cylinder (only $13xx ?? Thats cheaper than a 3 cyl 450, Why?). If this is NOT too good to be true, I am going to pull the trigger. Does anyone have any personal experience with the 9 cylinder?

I read somewhere that the more cylinders there are the worse the engine sounds... I don't know if there is any substantiation to that claim so Il wait for some of you guys to chime in.

This engine is intended for a 85+" sukhoi of yak54. I don't necessarily need gobs of power (but it would be nice) I just want to do my low burner passes with a 4 point roll

I would sincerely appreciate any feedback. Particularly on the Seidel 9 and 7 cylinders (I would prefer the 9 but will go with the 7 if it sounds better)

Thanks in advance, Pete

To me, the Moki's seem to sound the best and "meanest," Just do a youtube search and hear them for yourself.... regardless of video downsampling.

I agree the Moki's sound great. The price however is a different story. I still cant believe a 9 cylinder radial is only $1400. Just doesn't seem right..

If my memory is correct, folks say that the most accurate sound would be reproduced best by a 3 cyl radial. This is the case because model engines tend to run at about 3x the RPMs of historic originals.

By this logic, a 3 cyl running 3 times faster than it "should" will fire at the same rate as a 9 cyl full scale engine.

Being said, there have been a plethora of videos of models with the Robart R780, Seidel ST-770 and Technopower engines doing a low pass fly-by and they all sounded completely awesome.

On the other note, I am also very very interested to know if the HobbyKing ad is for real. I have understood for a long time that the new engines would be dirt cheap because they are made in in India now where labor is almost free this could explain the price drop.

If anyone can confirm receiving an engine from Hobby King, It would be greatly appreciated, as I am now trying to scrape together the $$ to get the 7-70 and 9-90 engines now. Can we also expect that the tiny new 7-35 engine will be listed on Hobbyking.com in the near future??

Just imagine picking up all three engines for the price of one new OS 7 Cyl!!!

I hear you Steve, If I can just get a little more info on the Seidels from HK I would definitely pick one up. I think Felix bought one. Maybe he can chime in?

Actually I bought it from seidel (factory) directly, at the price of 995 euro. Germany and Spain are European Union, and it´s free of customs. For sure HK seidels are the same as mine.

Regards.

I have bought several engines from Hobby King and have been very pleased by the results. I have also ordered a Seidel-UMS 7-70 but have not received it yet. You can go back a page or so to see the one Felix Barrao got. His was direct from Seidel in Germany though, but was built in India. He also has a video a few posts back. I am SO stoked!

Although not a 1300 purchase, I have dealt with HobbyCity dozens of times.

They are for real (very) and it takes a while to ship.

A week to pack your order and then 1-2 weeks to arrive at your home (US).

Express gets it there in about a week and a half.

There is an almost new OS FR-300 five cylinder radial engine for sale in the RCU classifieds at a ridiculous good price. No affiliation, just a heads up.

Thats correct (-)

Dunno about the quake...wasnt it in Taiwan? I dont know how close that is to HongKong.

I know they are just coming off thier NewYears Holiday and they usually get way behind and take a while to catch up. They also carry just 1 or 2 of a new high ticket item to see how they will sell then they will order in a few more according to demand so I am expecting them to get several when they do recieve thier next order (I hope)

OT....
I just noticed...Pentwater. I spent several days there a few years back. What a beautiful little town! Look ya up if I get back that way.
