I thought somebody would have chimed in by now to help you.I have a larger saito twin but have not timed that yet,you should see the timing marks illustrated in the small engine handbook that comes with it.If you don't have that google it they come up real easy and good luck,it's a simple operation.

Thanks old fart, I'm going to look at that manual. I'm going to take pictures and make notes so I can get it back together the way it is now. It runs good but is leaking. I'm planning to put it on a sig cub that is still in the box so I have lots of time.

when using the extension on the needle valve be aware of vibration, i have found damage to the taper that has been tracked back to long term use of the extensions. in saying that i have not had any trouble personally. could be because i give plenty of clearance around the exit point from the cowl for the extension

You should use the correct Saito "full throttle needle extension" just for the packaging. I like the idea of grinding a flat blade slot in it my self.

I mentioned alsewhere that I have my early high compression Saio 1.50 back to the stock intake pipe. I just running if for about a half hour using up most of a 16 oz tank. There is no spinner on it for a reason, I could not get it started with the spinner installed. There is just not enough traction between the prop driver and the metal backplate of the Try-Turn spinner. I will fix that with a pin in the backplate.
Saito 1.50
Prop==15x7 three blade
Plug==Horizon H plug
Fuel WildCat 15% Premium Extra
Cline regulator
TurboHeader exhaust.
Rpm==8,400 plus a few.
Picture @ 6,500 rpm running very smoothly

Regarding needle valve extensions: I have found that very long ones are nothing but trouble after a while. I make up and use a little (short, that is) 4-40 bolt cut down and turned or filed to fit in the "extension" hole in the needle valve. These would be hard to find inside a cowl, so I cut off the larger end of a glue nozzle (actually a pipette tip) so that it just captures the head of the bolt. That makes it very easy to get the ball driver into the socket head of the bolt. The pictures aren't great, but should show what I mean. These work great on Saitos (of course), but can also be used on that other brand of 4-strokes.

I wanted to showcase my recent acquisition. someone built the mother of all engine test stands. I was lucky enough to pick it up third hand.
takes two hands to lift it. 1 inch steel plate.

have a look at dave's and the huge pile of firewood that's stacked next to it.Mind you i've a question to ask that bloke myself..if he's so good at tuning saito's you'd think it woul;d be no problemo with hand starting the hugely high compession 150 eh?..we all do that here in aus haw

Several back flipping attempts resulted in the prop coming off and one occasion it whacked me in the rib cage. As I mentioned above the backplate on the spinner just did not have enough grip. Spinnerless, it fired right up on the first back flip. I actually have the prop driver drilled and tapped for a drive pin. That pile of wood is only about 1/3rd enough so it's time to fire up the 24" Poulan and hook up my ugly old trailer and head for the woods. That trailer has wheel bearings that would rival an 18 wheeler and is rated at 3,500 lbs. Made in Oklahoma by WW.

Mr. Lee lists the compression ratio at 11.24 to 1.

My 1.50 had the muffler vibrate off and strip the threads. I bought another new muffler and header pipe and in 3 or 4 flights it vibrated off too. I thought it was tight enough but I didn't put locktite on it. Am I missing something here? Prop is balanced and spinner too.

Dave, the wood goes in the truck bed.
I faced a dilemma when I bought my truck last year and went with a removable backflip type of cover. It comes off in a couple of minutes and covers all my planes and gear when installed. I almost got a topper like yours. Had it a year now.

Barry, what I do is unhook the trailer and fill the truck up first, it has an 8' bed, trucks with less than an 8' bed should be called cars. The I reconnect the trailer and fill it up too. My F-150 has a trailer towing package and the stabilizing package so handles heavy loads like it was nothing. For $160.00 that is best thing you can do for your truck.
As to H's question, I don't ever put the muffler above the head except with a TH. The stock mufflers offer too much pendulum effect to suit me.

Regarding the muffler, that is what I thought. I recently purchased 2 Turboheader mufflers after hearing about it from you guys. I am very happy with them. It allowed fitting the muffler inside a warbird cowl and preserving the good looks of the plane. The guys at the field are impressed with the "mean" sound it makes. I suspect some of them will buy themselves some of these also.
Regarding trucks, I just recently (3 months ago) purchased an old F-150 (with an 8-ft bed of course) and put a used cap on it. During the week, my sons use it, and during the weekend, I use it to haul my planes. Now I need to build some sort of rack to hold more planes in it.

Even better, Dave. Still, kinda hard tossing wood into the bed though?. I mentioned the backflip way because it seemed to be the answer to everything for me. There's a guy in our club who has a couple of small-medium 4 strokes with his mufflers sticking straight up like smoke stacks. They seem to do fine. I always wondered why he does that. Jim said he saw a picture of one of his planes with the engine turned 90 degrees. But, 90 degrees the other way where the exhaust was blowing into the canopy.

Glad you took the jibe as humurous dave.All that timberwork must keep you pretty fit and have you tried cutting an #80 grit sanding disc to shape and fitting it between the prop and the spinner backplate/driver?
