Sorry RV, I hit the button beside the Reply button.

When I was growing up in western Pa. we bought my Dad a new Stoeger Shooters Bible every year for Christmas. I sure would like to have some of them now.

When I had the Saito .90 R3 I just broke it in like I did every other Saito. I had a video on this site of it wearing a Keleo ring I can't find it any more..

Old Fart and others. Just been and checked the NIB Saitos purchased here and in Hong Kong (in the 90's) and all have these nice little instruction sheets (including a parts break down) that give you safety instructions for running in and general operation. Also included is recommended fuel mixes and prop sizes (for sports operation). All in good english and easily understood EXCEPT for (the english bit) the 2 gas engines. These are a different matter. Now old fart I use a 20% hgh viscosity Cool power oil (heli oil), 20% nitro (sports flying) rest methanol. No castor that is used in the diesels. Saito recommends a minimum of 20% synthetic for all the modern saitos so I run that in all my saito glos. (Simplicity). With the racing devices same oil type / quantity and up to 50% nitro depending on the application. With the high nitro runs the engine gets an end of day "wash" with a FAI fuel run (usually 10 to 15 mls) to fuel exhaustion and after run is pumped in while te engine is warm. It is all as simple as that.

For those interested, the Citroen that was attacked by the big Saito was a maseratti powered device, quite quick, the place was Cheras (where the Commonwealth Games were held in Malaysia) and the engine was in an Astro Hog and went right through both rear doors of the Citroen. Malaysians being Malaysians (the wealthy ones) the car was scrapped and a new one imported to replace it. It was owned by the Sultan of Selangor's horse trainer.

To expand on the Citroen thing. The deal in Malaysia at the time was to put the biggest engine you could afford in the model you chose to fly. I think the mind doctors call it "a ***** size = size of toy thing". The a/c was a standard size SIG Astro Hog that normally had a 60 two stroke fitted for good performance. My memory says this device was fitted with a Saito twin plug 120 or it could have been a 150. Germaine to the story. Model was in usual circuit and landing when owner expressed concern fight ensued over who should land said a/c (there was an instructor present) and most of you can envisage the transmitter fight, instructor prevailed at the to late point and flew the model through his almost brand new Citroen. All very "funny" and in Malaysia you did not take photos of Tunku's stuff ups. That could be considered "insulting" Mind you said gentleman was constantly insulted by breathalysers that constantly showed him drunk after he left the bar he owned. This could not be correct as muslims do not drink. All in All an interesting time in my life. Now did I tell you about the Saito 50 powered Cub that wrapped itself around a crane of the MH line captain that managed to fly a model through the open windows of the house belonging to the local copper. Stories for another day. The workshop beckons

Saito Fans, Dan has my 1997 C&H SS module and is installing a 120 spark plug cap. I think he is also going to try it out on one of his engines and plot a spark advance curve. It'll go on my high compression 1,50 when it returns.

I have no way of plotting the advance curve Dave. What I plan to do is try it before & after the plug socket switch on my 12.7:1 compression FA-180 W/the 12mm carburetor. That engine is a good test to see if there are any gremlins present as if there is any internal arcing in the module/lead, it will show up as poor low speed/transitioning characteristics.

I'll also run it on my stock FA-150 @ 35* BTDC to give you an idea of what you should shoot for on yours.

Default Passed the Acid Test

I got the 120* plug socket installed on Hobbsy's Synchrospark module & I made a DEAN/servo connector adaptor lead so I could fire up the high compression FA-180 W/it.

The engine idled @ 1200 & transitioned smoothly pulling 8000 RPM W/the 18X8 Dynathrust propeller. The same performance as my module on a miserable day, cold, damp & pouring rain

If I get an early start in the morning I will do some pulls W/my FA-150 W/a16X8 Zinger before I ship it out.

Sky, Saitos typically use about 1 oz of fuel per minute per cubic inch displacement at full throttle. The larger ones do a little better than that.

When I converted my FA-200Ti to CDI, I had some very interesting results.

Although I didn't gain the usual 150-300 RPM over the GI (Glow Ignition) output, the fuel economy improved by 70%!

With GI the 12oz tank of 15% Cool Power was drained in just over 7 minutes @ WOT. That equates to 1.7oz per minute. About par for the course & very close the the 1oz per cu in rule of thumb. W/CDI, it took over 12 minutes to drain the same tank @ WOT.

That's 1/2oz per cu in per minute. Quite an improvement!

Thanks! Does C&H or anyone sell stuff to convert the 82 to gas or is it too small? I do realize that Saito has their gas version.

To Hookstown in Beaver County, right near where route 30 enters W.Va. I'll be going right through Washington on Route 18 via 79/70, from I 68 in Morgantown.

I'm anxious to run my Saito 1.50 on ignition using glow fuel, it's an early high compression one that can be a little cantankerous if you even let it think it's a little too rich.

Ever hear of Fennelton? About 1/2 way between Butler & Kittaning just off old Rt 422.

Named after my family, but they left 1 "L" off.

I was born in Butler County Memorial Hospital.
