Welcome to Club SAITO !
I wrote that glowing report of being on the mend and I got hit hard today with pain everywhere. It's like none of the pain meds worked. Sorry to hear about your back. I had a bout of unbelievable back pain when I was in the service.
Pete- I'm lucky enough to not have to get on the roof for my antennas. My roof is slate so I can't get on it. But, my attic has a floor and a high pitch so I have a whole lot of room up there. I have 4 antennas at the moment but plan on a palm sized one for getting a/c data that is sent from satellite to aircraft with all the reports, etc. I will get line of sight traffic for a few hundred miles data sent by a/c. I have decoders for all that stuff.

Spent a lot of time in the service armoury and as a beginner if you screwed up you got stuck loading what seemed like endless belts of 20 and 30mm ammo,it did your head in after all day and even with earmuffs on the range butt testing aircraft cannon shook your whole body with concussion waves and you got half deaf.Which is why i found robin williams line in the good morning vietnam movie so funny ' i don't care what it is,just play it loud' still cracks me up.Now get better ya hear?

[QUOTE=SrTelemaster150;12386655]Wouldn't an external oil tank make it "dry sump"?
Hah, you got me good there, yes sir it would indeed be a dry sump like my Sporty has. Everybody told if I used a non Harley oil filter that the oil would drain from the tank down into the sump, but it doesn't.. I have an aftermarket 35 micron stainless steel screen filter and no problem.

Pete- I still have about 60-70 AM or AM/FM tube radios....that's valve radios for you. I was restoring them slowly. I stopped after many hours on a particularly nice AM radio that I dropped and everything shattered. I'll go back to it one day after I finish up a Ultra Sport 60 and a 4*20 that are both about half built. I have a lot of new radios that were kept in near mint condition and work well. For broadcast FM radio now I use SDRs (software defined radios) and use 2 FM antennas stacked one above the other in the attic to multiply the gain. I am getting CD quality music in Atlanta which is about 80 miles away, and the beach FM stations on the Gulf of Mexico beaches. Just another hobby that is a money pit like r/c planes.
Gol dang it dave you swore to me on a stack of bibles and in a very personal pm that you would be away from the keyboard for a whole beautiful week...and now look what's happened. It's enough to make you think about running your best saito on a graupner prop and to hell with after run oil.

It was 7 days counting from Wednesday to Tuesday, I clocked it yesterday at 386 miles, fortunately the Galant is a good traveler even with 231,000 miles on the odo. The Mrs. wants a new Chevy Cruze, it won't happen soon, but.
I received the sheeting for the 50 Caliber's wings yesterday. The Saito .30's are ready and I have a new 4 channel Spektrum receiver too. It's tiny and without the extra auxillary receiver.

Last weekend i ran the second of my high compression 180’s
Was abel to turn a 16X10. At 8500. That gives me an idea.
Say new GeeBee with 180 instead of the 150 i have now. I should be able to pick up a few knots. And sound really good doing it.
Thanks again to SRtellamaster150 for helping me out on these projects.

those are good numbers, what brand prop
I'm betting my old Magnum 180 4St wouldn't get 8000 with an APC 16X10 (W/20%)

Unlike cam, induction or exhaust modifications, increased compression boosts torque across the entire RPM range. It also improves efficiency and can boost fuel economy at light/moderate load conditions.

Get a 12mm "Big Bore" carb for the FA-220 and drill the updraft portion of the FA-180 intake manifold to 12mm.
(leave the horizontal portion alone, it will increase intake charge velocity)
I picked up 200 RPM with an 18x8 (8400 RPM)
If you haven't read it, I did a comprehensive evaluation of compression and induction modification power gains in THIS THREAD.
Now cap don't you let that wiley coyote sr talk you into any more fa180 hot up measures, when you can be the ultimate lazy mechanic and just buy an fa220 to start with. The whole range of saito fourstrokes work like that.

The only good reason I could see for going to an FA-220 is the opportunity to soup one up. Should be able to top 4.5 HP with a CDI high compression 220 burning methanol and improve fuel economy to boot..

Hello
I have a saito 220 with CDI and run it with methanol.
They are the best I have done with that engine.
Strong like bear, propellers 18x10, 20x8 are no problem.
No oil drafted from exhaust gases and low consumption.
so they can I highly recommend mounting CDI.
But it may be harder to get the engine running at low temperatures

Captcrunch44, how about Milling up a High'er Ratio Rocker Arm ?? you wont need to go that far with it,
I would think you don't want that much more RPM, it will be hard on the Rods, so putting a High'er Ratio Rocker on the intake should work well,
BTW, if you need a larger OD Push Rod Tube just buy a larger one from Satio or from some other brand and cut it down, and Mill out the Head and Cam Cover, don't forget the larger Tube Seals
