This rod came in a plain jane 50 which I ran today, it's now black with chrome rocker covers.
I have the later 125 with the larger cooling fins, I had a 115 briefly and when the first 125 came out I sold the 115. I think it would have been a fine engine.
Saito 50 that came with the rod shown above., now has new rod, bearings and gaskets.
Fuel===Wildcat 10% full synthetic.
Prop====Bolly Clubman 11.5 x 6
Plug====Glow Devil for Saito/Enya
Exhaust=Late cast muffler
The engine turned a little stiff, I was concerned at first
The compression was a little soft but started on the 4th flip
It went right to 4,000 rpm so I did not touch anything for 10 minutes.
Then I moved it up to 5,500 for 10 more minutes, 1st attempt at full throttle was 10,100 rpm
Then to 6,000 until the 14 oz tank was half empty.
Max rpm art half tank===10,580
Idle at that point========2,100
It now turns freely and has snappy compression.
I was overlapping cutting logs to 24", so no pictures.
Ancient Remington electric chain saw broke into 4 pieces for no apparent reason. Fun day, time to read a book and study for Christmas play.

Late cylinder on the right, they probably did it for the gas version.

wow I didn’t know that I have two of the old style and one new style. You had said something about that a while back and I compare the two that I had and they were the same I just got this other 125 a few months ago and never compared them, as you can see it needs some help winter project I guess another engine added to the list

Eggs ackley!, smooth as duck poo on glow ignition, that looks like it would be fun to fly even tho the pilot looks worried, are you mode1 or2? i'm mode 2 just in case you'd like to post the whole shebang over and see how it flys downunder/upside down.. Dave has always had a bad attitude when it comes to fa115's, but that may be historical because i always told him i've run two fa125's in now on the bench and they take a long time before they start to perform well. On the bench an fa125 propwash off a 16x6 zinger won't even blow the froth of your favourite pint of beer. Once they have a few hours they DO power a large h9 taylorcraft very scale like, in the one i flew, but my own h9 taylorcraft flew aero's better with an fa182 twin, it suited it well, no tail weight needed and sounded better especially with that nice sounding prop ripping howl the 18x6 ma classic makes at full throttle downwind.

I remember my 1.15 had cosmoline or similar on the crankshaft and rod and spewed blackish oil for about 20 minutes. The 1.15 has it's own muffler. I didn't eggzacly dislike it, I just didn't think I needed it when I got the 1.25, now I'd be proud to have one.

The cam swap didn't go so well. The 45s/50 cam was over compressing the valve springs, actually way past coil bind, It could be felt as each valve reached full open while rolling over the engine. Not sure why this mod didn't work, others have successfully upgraded 45's to 45S's. Maybe I have a very very early 45 MKII.
More trouble, the engine had been run too lean by the previous owner and had a very bad exhaust valve leak. The seat was warped and the valve stem was a little blue but still straight.
I used laquer thinner first to remove all castor varnish, then a pencil eraser, then 3M Perfect-it polishing compound but the bronze seat would not true up. With a leak that bad I had nothing to lose so I hit it with fine valve lapping compound, finally I could see a continuous ring form on the seat. Switched to medium metal polish then to the 3m polish again and now she's tighter than a nun's #%*$. I know this sounds aggressive but it was either that or scrap the head.
As per the following posts below I would like to retract the following statement. Thank you to those who have had first hand knowledge about this subject. Apparently the seats are not plated.
Note: For those unfamiliar with Saito designs the later AAC engines have chrome plated aluminum valve seats. Any aggresive valve lapping, enough to expose the aluminum under the chrome plating, will ruin the cylinder. Even if the valve appears to be leak free after lapping the exposed aluminum will burn away due to high exhaust gas temps.

Cap, I have a Super Tartan 44cc Twin (a strait Methanol engine), they come stock with a rather small carb, they sell today pre owned for $200 to $250 on average never started
