I bet that plane flies great with the 45s. I love the pull cart, is that a radio and speaker I see?

I fly at my own place out in the country here in Texas. My field box on wheels gets pulled out to my flying strip. It has a 20 watt amp that I plug a MP3 player into. I can listen to my old Elvis and Beach Boys music while I fly. I do most of my flying from a lawn chair here so the music just makes it perfect for while I fly. The only one I disturb is the cows in the next field over from me. They must like my music.

Sounds like a peaceful place. It's a well known fact that cows are attracted to the sound of a Saito.

It can be pretty quiet here but there are nights that the coyotes start howling and you have to shut the windows if you want to sleep. Then there are the other wild animals here like pigs, bobcats and rattle snakes to deal with. The rattlesnake in the picture was shot on my front porch. I also included a picture of my flying strip taken from the top of my ham radio tower.

You commented about how the plane flies with the modified 45. It flies very well. I have outboard servos on the ailerons and can drop them like flaps with the mixing in the transmitter. It makes for some very slow flying. The mid range and low range on the engine are still very good and it had to be right for slow flying. I have got the plane to stand still in the air for 15 seconds with the right wind and the flaps down. The engine is very reliable. I like the plane so much that I scaled it up and built a version with a FS120.

One thing I do miss is having someone to fly with. I am the only one that flies around here.

The interference between cam lobe and lifter bushing was present on one housing and should be easily remedied by relieving the lifter bush that extended slightly into the cam housing.I was able to put the Saito 80 cam into the relieved housing and it spins freely. The 45 lifter is 10mm oal and the 80 is 14mm.

With a little digging, I was able to come up with a newin package Saito 45-50 carb body assembly. No barrel but that should be the same as a 50-56-62 barrel.

I found something interesting. With 45mk2 cam housing itself is 1mm narrower than the Saito 80 and the 56 and the 45 special cam housings. The cam housing that I’ve been looking at and comparing from the Saito 45 mark two the lifter guides do not protrude into the cam housing at all so after installing the Saito 80 cam into the 45 housing it wouldn’t turn because the housing itself is now a 1millimeter narrower than the Saito 80 Cam housing. I noticed when they came out with the 45 special it use the same housing the early 50-80. It has a reinforced side bump on the out side. The 91’s I see here don’t have that bump nor does this new 50-56 housing I have.

Here’s the reinforcement ledge.

An easy way to tell a 45 special cam housing is to look for an added contour on the side. The base of the cam housing does appear a little thicker on the special as well.

Not sure if it’s just my engine but the cooling fin on the std 45 below the intake tube has been machined off.

So I am just say to put a 56 cam in a 45 mk 2 housing takes a little more work to me then just a bernishing of a little brass.
I have noticed also with the lower center pin in the newer housings one would have to shim up the housing to get proper gear mesh.

one more thing, I have have 4 different 45 Mark 2 housing and they all measure the same.

the lifter guides on the new cam housings are taller
like Gary said they went from 10 mm to 14 mm lifters
also you see i my pics they had to reinforce that Area because they hogged out the inside so far. The new housings are just bigger and have gotten away from the bump

Yes, I see that now. The lifter guides are taller on the 45 special.

Hmm I see you have the same metal rule from Snap on that I use. Has anyone found out what is used for the gasket material itself? It's still on my list to get some gaskets in the system to be cut.

Well dam there’s a nub or model mark in the roof.
when turned the cam so that both lobes were at the top of the cam housing it wouldn’t turn, I can see now there’s a squeaky clean fit on the sides. My bad.

guess I had to go out and freeze my ars of trying to run an engine to clear mi eye’s and mind.

So just went out and ran this parts in the box 100 and it ran pretty good a lot like a new engine turned a 15-8 at 9100.
not bad. Also tried my new fuel mix bad idea when the engine is new I don’t know if it was the fuel the cold or to much prop. Also gave the new tach that Santa Claus sent me out of the blue thank you Dave. Worked great.
has anyone else step out side to run a engine and have the wind pick 10 mph and the temp drop 20 degrees? Wow it just did here. Look out Acdii it’s coming your way lol.

Anyone have an extra 45S or 50 cam housing they can spare? I went through all my parts again and it looks like I could convert my third 45 to a 45s if I bought one rocker arm and fa50 pushrods.

If that's an fs120s I just listed a nib fuel pump for it on the classifieds. Rare as hen's teeth and made from unobtainium.

I get down to the Austin Tx. area once or twice a year. Are you located anywhere near there?
