Fuel Wildcat 10% with 18% full synthetic
Exhaust adapted twin FA 30 mufflers
Plugs Glow Devil for Saito/ Enya
Max rpm after 30 minutes run time a solid 7,950
Idle, not set yet, 30 degree air too cold for hands
Beautiful purr and smooth as silk.
Left cylinder smokes more than the right one, an inquiring mind will investigate.

Running at 6,000 rpm.
Will it preform identical without the muffler back pressure.?
Start, run , and produce similar rpm numbers?
Very curious.

Back pressure is not needed or desired with fourstrokes.

Still have a nice 1/5 scale Pica Waco that I would sell reasonably. Could probably come up with a Saito FA-150 for it , also at a very reasonable price.
I fly skis on my cub and super sport currently. My hog is one of my float planes . They fly so nice with floats I can't resist a snow day😀
What is a reasonable price for the Waco without the powerplant? Can usually find a good for home one of those. This is a biplane summer upcoming. A 1/4 Waco was on the list. The 1/5 pica is a nice bird.
Have a nice little Saito 5 cylinder that works well on the 1/5 scale bipes. Without the cowl lol
Bigger issue with me is space. Opened up a few slots with better organization. Enough for one more anyway if affordable.
Hehe
The Astro hog would have been wearing skis and a 1.0 satio. My float hog is happy with a 91 OS.

Yep. That is my general experience also.
My FA90 twin is a noteable exception to that!

That is an unbelievable price for such a great looking airplane! One of you other guys needs to snap this one up while you can!

Did you receive my last email on the Aeromaster?

Considering that the mufflers are designed for the little 30 and I used two on a 60 that is turning sub 8,000 and the 30's turn 10,500 or better, I don't think back pressure is a concern. I plan to run twin Turbo Headers, (40 size) and see how that works.

No need to thank me Jim I'm not doing anything but show off Douglas' work. Maybe you and I can chip in and buy him a roll of filament? I think there is a vendor that will let you buy it in the USA and they ship it out of the French warehouse.

I’m finally getting around to getting my Saito 72 out back together so I can move onto rebuilding the 90T I picked up.

The question I have is the original main bearing has a metal shield on both sides. I have a replacement Boca bearing metal shield and rubber shielded bearings. I’m assuming it’s OK to leave the shields on since the original had it or should I remove them?

I think this car would go faster if it had a Saito in it and a prop on it

hey Pete, and it's upside down too

remove both shields on the rear bearing and remove the grease, oil has to get to the front to oil the cam.
I have never seen or heard of a rear bearing having a shield in any RC glow engine. there may be one out there but I have not seen it.

I have seen shielded rear bearings direct from the factory. Shielded bearings do pass oil readily.

I have seen rear factory bearings with shields as well. If I'm doing a bearing swap I remove the rear bearing shields, no need to restrict oil from migrating to the cam area in any way.

I also have seen several configurations of with and without, and partial shields. Never positive it was factory as I have never torn down a motor I bought new though.
Common sense dictates removal for obvious lubricant passage reasons.
Be interesting to know the answer to this long debated subject from Saito MFG.

This car/rocket will give the driver/pilot one heck of a ride if he/she survives it!

I have torn down many, virgin from the factory, Saito engines. Back then I worked on many of the engines that we sold there. Often I personally sold the engines and knew the owners well.
