They say "Nothing flies like a Telemaster", I see what they mean! Took the "Pull Baby Pull" Sr Tele out for maiden yesterday. With the FG21 and 16x6 prop the rollout was less than 15 ft. and spot landing was really slow, even harrier-like. No problem at all landing on my 100 ft. diameter pad even with wind gusts to 15 mph. It's fun to fly on the wing with confidence.

I flew for 24 min at varying throttle, a lot at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle , and used 4 oz. of fuel from the 8 oz. tank. Total fuel investment was 27 cents.

Assuming you can get an FA115 on cdi to use < 1/2 oz./min on 0% nitro I'd say that's a fair assessment.

Thanks for the info Hobbsy.

Any way to to tell if it’s a high compression engine from looking at it? I’m assuming not all 150S’s are high compression.

As far as the carb upgrades go, I noticed on my 72 upgrade kit that the HS needle has a different profile compared to the original. The spray bar must be machined differently to accommodate that. Perhaps to increase or decrease sensitivity?

At part throttle, no problem, and well worth the extra pennies. Even on glow ignition for that matter. 0% Methanol ("Glow") fuel costs about $11/gallon.

Well then, here is a V-Stack for it, the lathe is getting handier and handier. It will take a little pushing to get the clip edges up where they will clip, but very doable. I try to get it headed your way tomorrow if not today. If anyone has some of those clips extra I could use them, Thanks

hey guys, I received the Phoenix Ryan STA, 71" span yesterday, I tell you it looks really nice !! it was kitted much nicer than my other ARF planes, the fuse and wings were covered with foam paper sheeting and the fuse was taped to the box. and all the bagged parts were also taped down to the box. the wings were under the fuse with cardboard between them (of course), the cowl is nice with molded panel lines. and the vertical stab is built up with the frame, a nice plus. I like it more than the GeeBee Y.

Pete would like this one with a Saito 150 in it !!

with that I guess I will go through the engine just to make sure it’s good good.

I have a 125 in a hog bipe. I almost like the 91 a little better but I think the bipe is a little nose heavy. I will fix that the next time I get out.

As far as weight I will have to weigh it when I get home.

Jim, Most of the Pheonix Models ARFs have been very good (excluding hardware) but watch out for that cowl paint. The paint is hard as nails and nonflexable so ANY bending of the cowl WILL cause the paint to crack. My Sbach has 6 or 8 large chips out of it and cracks everwhere because I gently squeezed it between my legs to dremel the engine cutouts two handed. Looks like a big fat dammit now. Flies wonderful though!

Lonnie, for the engine, I was undecided until I saw the specs on my VQ P-40. so I have 2 engines, my FA100 & my FA115, I was going to put the 115 in the P-40, but the manual did not have the flying weight. so I looked up the weight on the VQ site (7.23 pounds to 7.94),, I think I will put the 100 in the P-40 and 115 in the Ryan

Dave, yes I remember your plane is a Phoenix brand, I looked good at it on Tower's site for my K&B100, but I don't think the K&B will fit in it with the stock muffler.

Lonnie, as for hardware, I sure understand that, both my World Models planes were like that, the cleaves suck for sure and the threads on the push/pull rods suck too, I'm sure they want us to crash and buy another plane. I bought a tube of Do Bro push/pull rods, 36 per tube. I have to order glue and other things, I think I will be ordering some nice control arms too.

Good choice Jim. The Ryan should be pretty quick with the 115 spinning a 14x8 or even a 13x10.

yes, and I bought the APC 13x10 and 14x8 for the 115 in the P-40, I figured the 15x6 would be to long for the 62" span plane.

oh, as for the Ryan, I thought I would buy a set of Robart spring Robo Struts, I have a set for my P-40 and they seem to be OK

well first let me say that most every one around here end up removing their wheel pants because they usually get damaged quickly. grass rips up the back of the pants. actually most guys around hear do not even put them on their planes. I even think Gary told me he doesn't use them (Gary, did I remember that correctly)

but I have been wondering a long time now what if I cut off a 1/2 inch around the bottom of the wheel pants so they don't set so low on the bottom. that way they wont get in the grass so much on a hard landing. I also had the thought> when I cut them> cut them on an angle so behind the tires they will be higher so if the tires flattens a bit on a landing the back of the paint will stay out of the grass. I feel that I rather have a set of cut pants stay on and give the scale effect than have a set of uncut pants hitting and ripped up.
then today I had the idea about the Robart struts, so now I am wondering if I just fit the struts so the tires are even lower. of course I wont really know what I will do until I have the Robart struts here and the plane is all together

They are made of good stuff, you really have to be careful drilling them, slowly is the word.
