So I went to partially reassemble my YS 91AC/FZ and found that the crank is too big for the rear bearing. The rear bearing should be a slip fit or a very light press fit but instead it's a .00075" interference fit. Even using a frozen crankshaft and heated bearings I brinnelled the rear bearing while pressing the crank in. Yes, I did measure the new rear bearing ID and it's identical to the old bearing within .0001". The crank is just tapered too much, so time to get out the emory cloth. Good times!

If there's a used engine with an oversized crank anywhere in the world I'll end up with it! More delays.

I occupied a little of my time today running an OS LA 25, I am fixing up an old LT 25 for my brothers grandsons, the OS LA 25 will fly it quite well
OS LA 25 blue
Prop =====Xoar 10 x 5
Plug=====OS # 8
Fuel=====Wildcat 10% with 18% full synthetic lube
Exhaust==stock with baffle in place
Max rpm=11.580
Max safer rpm, 11,400
Best idle rpm,==2,150 A sweeter idle I've rarely seen, air bleed screw, exactly halfway across the inlet hole.
It's very easy to start.


The LT 25 on the left is the subject, equipped by me with a nose gear. I am using the new Spektrum AR 620 antenna less receiver.

Wow, no castor even on ABC bushed engines now? Man, you do really hate castor. I've never tried that, good luck.

I don't actually hate it, it just isn't necessary, I've even ran it in a Fox 25 with a steel or mehanite piston, there again, no issues.

Perhaps synthetic oils have come that far, I don't know.

I guess time will tell if a properly tuned bushed abc engine will hold up to 18% 100% synthetic long term. One thing for sure is I'd make darn sure the prop and spinner are balanced dead nuts on and I suspect there would be little to no protection against lean runs.

Come to think of it, your pretty long in the tooth, so your brother's Gson could be a responsible 40 yr old that would keep that 25LA running rich.

Oil in general has come up leaps and bounds ahead of what it use to be. Remember the days of 3K oil changes? by then the oil NEEDED to be changed, now 10K miles and the oil still has life left to it. Of course engines are also better built with tighter tolerances and better machining. The synthetics though have really improved, have really good shear and cling qualities. Oh, and they don't make you run to the bathroom after breathing in the exhaust. Not supposed to breath it in, but it happens, then you get castor on the face and inadvertently get some in the mouth, and suddenly you expel last nights dinner in a soupy mess. Castor, the bodies great cleaning agent! LOL

I've run Amzoil in my autos since the 80's. Motor oil, tranny fluid and gear lube. The primary reason for the extended oil change intervals when using 100% synthetic engine oil has been from the very beginning of its introduction that it does not absorb hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbons are suspended in synthetic oils whereas with petroleum oils the hydrocarbons are absorbed which breaks down the long molecular chains that provide lubricity.

My diesels have the Amzoil fill-for-life system, my cars get a filter change every 12500 and an oil change every 25000. We sold one of those cars last year that had 225k on it, still had great oil pressure and compression. I am a strong advocate of synth oil.

That said, I'm a strong advocate for castor as well. A little castor goes a long way when I screw up my needle settings and that still happens from time to time.

90 here today or would have gone to the flying field. I don't like heat, or let me clarify, I don't like Midwest heat. Utah heat, dry heat, I can handle. So instead I am heading down to my shop to stay cool and try to get my Chipmunk done.

Miserable here in AR this time of year too. I do a lot of evening flying in my pasture where I get shade from a stand of Pines starting around 7:00 pm. My 120ft. diameter pad isn't quite large enough to fly the fast planes here but I can fly my Sr Tele and get my 3D practice in.

Mixed up batch of Roundup and sprayed the drive and a few other places that needed it, and trying to eradicate the burr plants that proliferate my property. Thats about 45 minutes out in the heat and sun, just walking and pulling the trigger. I'm drenched and probably have a slight sunburn. Done for the day. Down to my workshop to cool off.

Try a little rock salt and water in the driveway it will keep them away for 2 or 3 years. I did that up against the fence of the empty house in back of me with a poison ivy problem, it worked great!

Yeah, two gravel driveways can be a pain to deweed. I have a whole bucket of it to play with. Now if I can just get the mower girl to stop blowing the cut grass onto the drive, there will be far less growth!

My niece earned herself two Master degrees by the time she was 26, one in business and the other in nursing. Her kid is only 10 and on his way to being genius also. It's 90 and super humid here, I'm not allowed out in that, but I go anyway and don't get too carried away or do strenuous things.
The 4mm and 5mm dies came today so I can finish up another rear facing vent similar to Gary's..

It only got up to 92 today a lot cooler than Friday. was. Stupid question for you Saito geniuses, I have a .80 with a chock on it is there any advantage to keeping it or should I swap it for a velocity stack?

I favor the velocity stacks and lose the chokes as soon as I get an engine, but that's me. You can also have the choke and a factory 50 sized velocity stack also.

The choke is useless when using muffler pressure. For the first start of the day I place a finger over the muffler outlet, roll the engine over 4 to 6 times and the engine is typically primed and wet enough to start.

Velocity stacks are always a welcome addition to my saitos. They catch carb spitback fuel which is then recycled back into the engine on the next intake stroke. Keeps the plane much cleaner and helps tremendously with fuel economy, especially from idle to 75% throttle.

hmm never needed to choke any of the glow engines, or 4 stroke gas. Probably because I use the electric starter. The 2 stroke gas though, always have to choke them.


Are you expecting it to roll away?
