Saito 45 Special. Does well with a name brand Master Airscrew 11-7 prop and 10% nitro Creul Power with 100% sympathetic oil.

I'm not sure if the cat taught the collie how to hunt moles or the other way round but they both were good at it. The collie died earlier this year but the mole hunt goes on! The cat will watch the yard for tunneling bulges, sneak up on the movement, jump 3 or 4 feet straight up in the air and come down plunging his claws into the tunnel. Pretty cool to watch.

Wow Gary, even if the 10861 was the peak number it makes more power than any of my three 56's on 15% nitro. You might want to check that crummy tach.

FA45, MA 11x7 @ 10861 = .945 hp. An FA62 is rated at .90 hp and they make a little more than that. Could be the prop. Got an APC laying around?

I have a Rough Collie, like Lassie only a tri color. We walked out to the room they sleep in and she had this big rat hanging by the head from her mouth. She caught two more after that, apparently they had a nest in a box buried under a shelf that we weren't aware of. Isn't country living grand!

Nothing at all wrong with the crummy tach. Very accurate, calibrates spot-on against a certified Hewlwtt Packard Event Counter. As do my other tachs. Thanks for the suggestion though. That was the one time peak with the extended straight pipe, not the sausage in the picture.. It ran a 10.8K peak on the sausage muffler that I fattened up to 10.5K. The owner is getting similar numbers with his own crummy tach.

The prop is all I had on hand small enough. and presents a light load. It over-revved on my Saito .62.

Just goes to show that different brands make far different numbers

Otherwise, I try to report only with APC rather than obscure props. That was the point.

BTW, I love that tach, the old Heathkit Thumb Tach is now second best. Worth every dollar!

Of course you know I made that crack about your crummy tach because I'm jealous. Seems like all tachs are pretty accurate these days, at least the four I have all read within 10 rpm. The main difference I've found is ruggedness, some are severely lacking in that dept as well as having battery connectivity issues. The tach I trust to work each and every time I pick it up is the Tachmaster analog you sent me. Hasn't failed me yet. The Fromeco looks very rugged indeed.

The drive system for the rotary valve is interesting, it is over driven by 25% having 20 gear teeth on the crankshaft and 16 teeth on the bottom end of the verticle shaft. At the top this is compensated for by having 12 gear teeth on the top end of the verticle shaft and 30 teeth on the valve drive gear. There is probably some logical reason for that. Most likely due to the valve drive needing to be a certain diameter.

Tinker, the rat terrier in question, doesn't just kill rats she'll kill about anything, snakes, rabbits, moles, squirrels, barn cats, you name it. If it doesn't get her first she'll get it.

Yep, all about the available spaces. 1.25:1 at one end and 2.5:1 at the other. That leave 2:1 overall as needed.

Ok I installed the new cam in the 60t. The gears seems looser than the other 2 60t engines I have at a certain point in the cycle. They are nice and tight for most of the movement until I think it is at a single point in a cycle. I think this maybe why the last cam broke on the from. Thinking it might have got hung and locked and snapped the from of the cam. I do not see any damage to last cam gear, the current crank gear or the gear connecting the crank gear to the cam gear. All seems to be smooth. I currently do not see it skipping gear timing when I manually turn it but scared that when I start it back up I will be back to square 1 and trying to find yet another cam .

The only thing I can think of is I have a bad cam that is not true ...

Curious what do you all think is the issue?

The HP 21 has an interesting torque curve, the torque is pretty consistent from about 5,800 to about 9,500 with 8,000 and 9,000 being being nearly even. The horse power is rated at nearly 12,000.

I can't find a Saito FA 30-s test that shows a torque curve.

Dave, with the VT25 making peak power at 12k it looks like a good engine for a little speed plane. If the bottom end will hold up unloading the engine 13k that is. Honestly I expected the readings to be a bit higher than .22 hp. 7x6 to 8x6 prop.
