I've heard some good things about VQ models. Some have had issues but most seem to be ok. I love the Hellcat and Bearcat. I plan to get a 50cc version of one or the other next year sometime. A TF 60 size Corsair kit that was started 6 years ago is back on the building table. I'll finish it here a little there a little over the winter. Power will be an FG21. I have got to get back to finishing repair on my 50cc Yak54 first though. No shortage of things to do!

Glad to see y'all kept the place chatted up, I was sick for two weeks and then went out of town for 3 days.
My Merry Christmas is late but sincere, it's in the 20's here, I'll get back to the glow plugs in a day or two.
Lonnie, do you really need to lower that tank with the FG 21 having a pump carb. Thanks
PS, I'll pull the 150 rod again today.

Dave, glad you're feeling better and safely home.

I believe it's important to locate the fuel tank for an FG just as you would for an FA. From the Saito FG manual:

"This new carb features a pump function designed to provide the correct amount of fuel to the needle valve assemblies to correctly operate the engines. It is not designed as a fuel pump to draw fuel from a tank mounted in the middle of your airplane. The fuel tank needs to be mounted as close to the centerline of the Carb assembly as possible; the same as we have had to do for all these years with our glow engine installations. If you stray very far from this rule, the engine will run differently upright and inverted. This usually leads to comments that an engine doesn’t like to run inverted, etc., when in reality, the fuel delivery system needs to be optimized for the engine installation being used. The pump is actuated by the negative pressure pulses when the intake valves are open and the engine is drawing fuel into the cylinder. On the latest version of the carburetor, we enlarged the area of the hole that delivers these pulses to the pump assembly. It has greatly improved the pumping action and has much more tolerance of ‘less than optimum’ fuel tank locations. But it is still not a Walbro carb and will not draw fuel from any long distance."

Gotcha and thanks. It's a pump that's not a pump, I guess it's almost a pump.

If it's not too much trouble that would be great. Here's why:

In Mike Billington's review of the later 150 he came up with a CR of 9.9:1 using a combustion volume (CV) of 2.83cc. Using that CV and recalculating for CR using your piston pin to piston top measurement (.25 mm taller than the later 150) yields a CR of 11.93:1 for the early 150. Clarence Lee spec'd the early 150 at 11.24:1.

Default Swarf in my 150!

Having torn down my later version 150 for measurements I have found metal flakes in the crankcase. I overhauled this engine with new bearings a couple of months ago so I know it was spotless when reassembled. It ran fine with about 48 oz of fuel back then and oiled it up for storage. Pics later.

Update: Front bearing seal popped out. The engine ingested about 25% of it.

He won't be close enough to bury it so he'll have to get over it! Maybe Pete can slip him a can of Emu to settle him down?

Still a pump.

Thankyou, maybe that needs a qualifier, here at Saito U some of us might deserve a, (most of the time) on the end.
He's shipping it this AM, I hope his cam is OK.
