We're with you Jim, I have my 6th radiation treatment today, only 39 more to go after today.

I am so looking forward to getting the 65's from Mike, I already have the Boca Bearings and gaskets for them. I promise to not paint them.

Jim I'm very sorry to hear about your failing eyes. Prayers are ascending from here for you and your brother.

I know what it's like to not be able to do what you love because of physical impairment. Had to give up baseball, drumming and bicycle racing due various physical problems through the years. All things I truly enjoyed but can longer participate in. I was crushed each time I had let one go but eventually found something else to occupy my time. That's why I'm flying models now. Best wishes.

Good AM Jim, would lens transplants not help you? Geri and I had that done about 5 years ago, with my glasses in I have exactly 20/20 vision. Take care, Dave

Oh wow another former drummer, bike racer and now Rc flyer! I didn’t do baseball only church league softball but also do MGBs sort of right now. Trying to get back into flying and get my planes resurrected. Got most all my Saitos unstuck and running now struggling with what flight batteries to use. Life, Lipo or still nicads. Hope to have lots of these saitos up in the air soon.

If your RX and servos can handle 7 volts, go for LiFe. They are 6.6 volts and like half the weight of Nicad/NiMh.

thank you Dave, she said nothing she can do if it's natural, this is because my ese grow longer, even if she changes the lens the eye would still grow longer

I also have the other side of my RV suspension to upgrade, put a Morryde cushioned equalizer on and a wet bolt kit. Good thing too, the OEM, even though it has less than 1000 miles was already showing wear. Other than a DPK and new motors and gear for the mirrors, the heavy stuff for the tow truck is done. Have to get the Kubota and JD X500 ready for the season and change the oil in my truck and wifes car. Then some outdoor work, and THEN I can spend some play time with my Corsair.
I am a bad man Todd I have a very similar list of higher priorities. But more motivation to ignore reality and play with my adult toys 😉
The truck , her car, and the rest of the tractor work are last minute JIT. Lol

I installed the K&N pipe on my F 150 yesterday, it was a bigger job than I thought but I got it done, what a magnificent sound. I didn't think a V-6 could sound that good.

Mikes Saito 65's haven't arrived yet, I finished up this 80 but need to run it. The prop is a 13 x 5 for setting the prop driver, I'll run a late cast muffler, I passed all my balogna mufflers along to Gary and ?. I'll run an APC 13 x 6 if I have one.

Welcome to the thread Jim, or welcome back?

Some Lipo chargers will handle LiFe, depends on the type. All the "4 button" Imax B6 "style" chargers like the Turnigy Accucel-6 will charge LiFe. LiFe is my preferred RX pack however I'm still running NiMh packs in some of my older, smaller planes that have 4.8v servos.

Picture is a little blurry Dave but that 80 looks really clean from what I can see. By looks of the jug it appears to be a later standard compression version.

Have fun rebuilding those 65's for Mike, great running engines. I redid a 50 for him, not sure if he's run it yet. I was amazed how strong those 50's run.

That would be welcome back, been out for a while and only been flying my styro Polaris in the back yard of late till I crashed it and been repairing. So I guess I need to read up on if the old Futaba servos will handle the higher voltage or not and my lipo charger will charge LiFe batteries. So may have to stick with old style batteries with them.

Airplane ready and airplane hauler reader, the Leer 180 XL cap was installed yesterday, the K&N pipe, (by me) the day before. I'll most like fly the 62 with a Turbo Header. Jim, do you have any Turbo Headers? Thanks

Sig Four Star with Saito 62 and 12 x 6 three blade.

Default carbon build up on exhaust valve

Iím having a problem with carbon building up on the exhaust valve stem.

I have two trainer type planes that I fly a lot. Both planes are identical except for the engines. One has a 40 Surpass and the other a FA45 modified with a 50 cam. Every nice evening during the week my wife and I will sit at the end of my flying strip in lawn chairs and I fly about three flights for about 25 minutes per flight. Most of the flight is done at about quarter throttle. These planes have had many gallons of fuel through them flying this way.

My fuel is 3% nitro, 18% oil. Of the 18% oil 20% of it is castor and 80% synthetic. My first thought was the castor in the fuel was causing the carbon build up on the exhaust valve. I use the same fuel for my Four-Star 60 with a Saito 80 and I donít have a problem but Iím not just floating around at low throttle with that plane.

Both the Surpass 40 and the FA45 had the problem. I have both of them all cleaned up now and it makes quite a difference in how the engine runs. My FA45 with the 50 cam now runs close to what a 45 Special runs.

To clean the valve, I put it in a drill press and spin it while using Scotch Brite on it. It seems to clean it all off with little effort.

Has any of you had this problem? Is there a way to eliminate the carbon build up? What is the best way to clean it off of the valve?
