hey guys, I think I know how to fix that seat on the 91.
to make a tool to cut the seat on the lathe, turn down some drill rod with a step on it, the small end will fit deeply into the intake port from the inside of the cylinder, and the step will have the correct angle cut in it for the seat. then (carefully) use course valve grinding compound to cut the seat, then once the seat is cut use a fine compound to hone the seat smooth.
my problems are.
1) I have turned drill rod on my lathe before, but it was pretty hard on my lathe.
2) I really do not have the correct cutter for this job.
3) even if I knew the correct degree of angle I need for the seat I don't think I can cut it accurately on the drill rod with the lathe.

Jim,
Lapping is not a good means to cut that seat adequately. A real, formed cutter is a better bet. For a one shot cutter on aluminum plain carbon steel would suffice. The angle of the cutter face should be very accurately cut, and a pilot bore provided on center and true. Piloting on the guide bore is your best bet. The actual cutting flutes could be milled, ground or even hand filed and finished by hand with a slip stone. You may want to visit a cutter sharpening shop and get some quotes or suggestions. Often the work can be had for a six pack of good brew. Consider as well a second cutter to at least level the top of the seat ring for a two angle job.

Most likely a lot easier in any event to simply hunt down a good cylinder.
I will keep an eye out for one,
In the mean time I do have a spare FA-100

Dave, I’m glad you like the 56 I sent you. I wish I would have had some time to disassemble it and run it through the ultrasonic cleaner before I sent it to you. I am interested to know where you get the HY props. I still have some original Bolly props here and like them very much.
The FA 40-a left the PO at 11:52, E-mail with Track # sent. A rear facing vent will follow.
The one I send will be aluminum.
Like this but the FA 40-a is on the cam box.

Dave, as an alternative to the screw in threaded hosebarb; You can simply turn one on your lathe without the threads. Sweat soldered in place it makes a leak tite, compact joint. Yhe price is right too,
Of course there are places where the two piece is the way to go; like when you have no room to swing the one piece into place

Hi guys
yes I plan to go to Sig. I believe I am part of the planning and set up crew.
I need to get down and talk to the guys. And gals.
also need to figure out how to get my planes down there myself.
also Dave is right I have a few engines that I have received and tried for that I will not sell.
But with that said I have a pile of engine’s that I have purchased over the years and I probably won’t sell them either.

I hear you, get a bit spoiled being raised in an industrial area, working with the stuff daily for years. I did describe earlier making a cutter from an old valve using hand tools.
Most likely a lot easier in any event to simply hunt down a good cylinder.

Just sold my #3 FA-91S (cheap) for partially the same reason, two are already too many !
Would have given it to the right person. Didn't know you were looking for one till after it was gone.
Do you still want the 91 cylinder?
LOL

Yep Dave, the 1/8 brass works great You can even sweat a short ring of 1/8" ID tube on top if you want a retention barb.
Jim, I will be looking for the .91 cylinder for your engine. Too bad the still in production and very similar 182 cylinder wont work!
