Welcome to Club SAITO !

The diehard enthusiasts over the years have honed and smoothed many of the orignal rough edges and the breed has continually improved even long after production ceased.
Now, THAT is love!
Personally , I prefer Jim's brother's Trident as a road bike. Better still, the BSA Rocket III

The sounds of both the big Brit twins and triples is lovely, butwe still love to hear a good Saito Saito saito hurling our favorite plane into the wild blue!

hey guys, did you know that today scientist now believe that our future influence it's past, if it's true it's a dirty trick on us!.
LOL oh yes. some 6 weeks ago I went to order a new DoBro prop balancer and it was $36 at Towers, LOL but because the site was so frustrating I didn't order. well I ordered stuff about 12 days ago and the price of the balancer is up to $46 now, it has been setting here in the box a few days, and last night I started balancing a new APC 11x8.
well I was checking the balance/ sanding and and over again, and the balance was coming up.
so I sanded more and again and the balance was coming up even more
sanded more and it was getting close to level,.
so I sanded more, and the balance was way off! WHAT! like it was when I first started.
so I stated to sand more and the balance started to come up..
and I sanded more and bang the balance was way off again! xxxx
so I thought the shaft was bent, no-p. one of the cones has a slot cut into it on it's outer edge, so if the cone turned in the prop the balance was off, sO I have to start over with Towers and get another balancer, I am sure they will not just send me another cone.
sorry guys for the Rant (again). but it seems that more and more junk is coming out of China than ever before.
a couple months ago my wife ordered a new crock pot threw Amazon because she could not find what she wanted here in the city. and when she received it the whole bottom of the pot was not glazed. and, some 3 months ago we bought a new washing machine and by the end of the same day that we received it I had called Home Depo to come back and take it away. it was junk! the hot water valve didn't work, and the agitator only turned about 8 inches. we went and bought a Speed Queen with NO electronics. and, it took Home Depo almost 2 weeks to give us our money back! and then a rep told me it must have been setup wrong,, yeah, he wanted me to believe that mounting 2 hoses and leveling it was the problem why the hot water valve and agitator would not work correctly.
I was going flying this weekend, but not now.

I'm going to resist the urge to clean up and simply ask that we move back on topic.
I realize there is the occasional stray but repeated posts about off topic get my attention, any topic, just seems the one that seems to be the dujuor here are cycles. Which contrary to opinion, I have nothing against.
So I'm politely asking y'all to move on.

I am running the FA-40A I got from Dave right now. I have a 6-ounce tank on my test bench. I’m using my usual home brew fuel. 18% oil and 3% nitro. Prop is an APC 11X6. Temperature out is “Texas hot”.
I am treating this engine like a new engine since it looks that way. The first tank I ran it at about 4K RPM and I will say one thing…it just sips fuel. I was able to hand wash my wife’s car before the tank ran dry. On other runs I have had it up to 9700 RPM and idling at 1900 but it seems happier at about 2200.
This is one cool little engine.

Nice running little engine! Just what you would expect from an engine Dave worked on.
Dumb question, has Saito ever published a list of their airplane engines, preferably with pictures, listed them in chronological order? I know OS has one of all their engines, I have a copy. I was just wondering if Saito ever did the same?

so I got an Email from Horizon about my balancer, they wanted to know everything about my balancer that I all ready told Towers and they wanted photos, but my wife's phone wouldn't see the gauge will so I took some close-ups with my Digital Microscope, boy you can really really really really really see how really really really bad the Chinese manufacturing really is.
sO along with not liking the way their new site is setup, it took me just about 3 hours to take those close-up photos and put that Email together for Horizon. I'm sure you can see why I am a bit upset with them. all for one small part they could have sent me. it must be a cor-prate thing
to the eye the Zink hides a lot !! but the $25 Digital Microscope can see it all

The Saito 182 carburetors, the Saito 182 carburetors have metering slots on the carb barrels. The holes at the end of the metering slot index with the holes in the carb body at full throttle. My AB screws are just over one half closed.

Fuel inlet holes in carb body.

AB holes about 51% closed

Ok respected Saito heads, I have a on topic question with a hypothetical. I have a beautiful airframe (mystery ship) which flys well with a G26 gasser. Slightly underpowered on climb out but flys well at speed. The plane has relatively low wing loading and is large at 90" plus w.s.
it weighs in at 15 pounds dry. That's the backdrop. Here's the question. If I mount a 6 pound Saito 75 cc R3 radial on it ( which will fit nicely in it's cowl) will it fail or be un flyable even if properly balanced?
Aaron- (hoping for NO ariel Hyjinx) lol

the MVVS 35cc weighs right around 3.4 pounds with ignition/less battery.
I have seen scale ships on YT with spans of 92" and over with 5 cylinder radials in them.
