Could use some help! I'm rebuilding a buddies Cub, and he asked me to set it up with a new Saito 182 TD- unfortunately, I've never fooled with any of the Four strokes, much less this lovely twin. Problem- this thing has barb fittings all over it, and the TINY pictures in the book leave me with questions. For some of the engines, I have both a breather (on the bottom of the crankcase behind the prop) AND a air out nipple (to go to the tank). Does the fitting at the front go to my tank vent line, or out the bottom of the cowl as a drain? Also, the two carbs are connected with 'Y' fittings, which in turn have a line with a nipple, and one line with a aluminum plug. Do I only connect to the one barb, and leave the plug in place, or would I be better removing the 'Y' fittings and running a separate tank line to each carb? Additonally, the 132 apparently had an external pressure adjusting valve- is this engine supposed to have one, and how do I connect it? Appreciate any/all help- Bill Crahen

Well funny thing I'm replacing some bearings also in a Saito 120. I am doing an engine cook down in the ol crockpot (well actually a roaster with a teflon tub) so here's a few photo's of the engine before cooking and I'll take some when it's clean and shiney. Note the metal flakes on the crank and other area's that glitter. This engine was bought off RCU as runs well.
But the seller made it right
love these R/C guys sent him an email and BAM ! new bearings. Anyway cleaning it up for the new bearings in its own little hot tub of anti-freeze.

I didn't know what those cooking things were called. We had one a while back, but it has since been discarded by the wife. I wish I had the presence of mind to keep it for my own uses. Lots of room in which to place water and then a small metal coffee can for the parts. A gallon of antifreeze would go a lot further using it that way. Yes, I'm cheap. <G>

Go to the flea market and ask for a crock pot. You might find one in "avocado" or the much sought after "harvest gold." I'm headed to the "wal-mart fall apart" to find a 21st century model.

Kmot Wow that's some pretty fancy detailing on that engine. Very nice.
General question for anyone. Will running my engine with rear bearings that have .003 or .004 play damage anything else or can I fly it untill there is some roughness or noise? To rebuild my Saito 80, what components would I need to purchase for a bearing change. Seal kit, bearings, any thing else? What compression would be considered low enough to justify ring also? The enigine runs pretty good right now.

Actually I am donating the roaster/engine cleaner to my club so everyone can use it. There is enough room in that tank for several glow engines even larger gas engines if needed. anyway heres some pics of my little cleaning project. OH yeah BIG LOTS and ODD LOTS are good places to find refurbished roasters and crock pots.

i bought a saito 82 a month ago for my omp v2 katana profile.46. i broke in on the stand; four 10 minute runs rich under 4k. spun the carb for a proper facing needle valve, made sure everything fit nicely. mounted on the plane. leaned the top end to a slightly rich setting, leaned low end also still slightly rich. talk about vibration, i can't touch the needle valve above idle. i sent an email to horizon explaining, they said to send it in for warranty service. any ideas?

My 82 had a real buzz when it was this new, but it did settle down the more I used it.
It is now quite smooth through most of its throttle range. It does have a buzz at mid-range, but then again, it is a single after all.
A very nice engine when broken in.

Didn't pick up on the profile bit.
Stand by what I said but do agree with w8ye that this may be part of your problem.

started w/apc 14x4w. on another thread is was told to use 13x4w, but i had MA 13x5, still a rich needle setting, w/o going completely to full throttle i keep it to about 9500. prop is balanced. i suppose the 14x4w is the best choice. i have less than 1/2 gallon thru it. low speed is as lean as i dare. idle is reliable to about 2900, should i just fly it?
