I checked and the 180 would require destroying the cowl entirely on the LT 40. I'll just have to be happy with 55 mph. I did do something that will enhance it's speed considerably, I ordered a Tru-Turn red anodized spinner.

Yessir Dave, the cowl on yours looks great too.
The old kit built LT-40 had no cowl, just the fuselage slabs alongside the engine. I had considered picking up a cowl as they really tidy the engine bay nicely. Just never got around to it and Sig parts can take forever to order anyhow
Really going to miss those True Turn Spinners. It was nice to treat yourself by putting them on your better planes, sure beats the plastic wobblers!
Good news too on the Saito cylinder, a stroke of luck there, good on you.

Very windy today, very windy! Got to be the one and only flyer at the field. Managed to get in 11 flights at 15 minutes each. With 25 to 35 mph winds the flights even seemed l o n g e r!
Had a load of fun, even the Bald Eagle came by to have a look at the white, red and black "bird".
Plane flew great, needs bigger wheels and taller gear. Grass is getting pretty tall mowing pretty shabby. Tail up touch and goes get a bit draggy on the prop.
The new "Owner" of the field is a jet fanboy, only concerned with his fabric runway. As long as all the holes have duct tape, all is good.

Hmmm, I hadn't heard this news about Tru-Turn. Dave Brown's Vortex spinners are gone too, I think. Is there any other source for quality metal spinners out there (with the emphasis on Quality)?

Around here wind with gusts from 12.7 to 17 mph are the norm. I watched a guy, owner of a LHS at the time, fly a small electric Funtana in 20 to 25 mph wind, it mostly hovered at full throttle. Great to watch but not something I wanted to try.

Lonnie,
Did you see this?
Hmmmmm, wrong link. original is gone ???
Thought it was the 200ti cylinder, sorry.

With the value , beauty, scarcity and complexity of your planes; I would too!
The old, worn out rat plane trainers are like some of the girls we took out. Then, only when we were sure our friends wouldn't see us
Your planes are are trophy babes!

Well that was a long time ago before Saito showed up.

Lonnie, refurbished a pair of Saito 50 sized lifters just to see if I can, and I can. The camera didn't pick up the slight curvature that is still there. The center is right where it was.

Some of you may know this already, I did some experimenting this AM., I removed the gasoline carb from my FG 11 and installed a 56 sized glow carb just to see if it could be done. It can and it's easy, you can use the same intake pipe but need to change the back plate. The gas carb is mounted with 2.5 x 25 x .45 screws, the glow carb is mounted using 3 x 20 x .5 screws. The reason for this madness is that the 56 cylinder I was excited about was partly mis-labeled. It is actually for a 200 radial and the FG 11 having a 27 mm bore. So, I'm going to build a .66 glow engine.

Yes Dave,
Exactly the same situation with the FG-20, FG-21, FG-14 etc . They use small screws on the gasser carbs to accomodate the phenolic heat insulator bushings. The methanol carbs slip right into place. Easy peasy, so easy it is frowned on

And they run very well.
50,56 and .62........same carb.

Flew the Super Stearman today….
Adjusted the valves last night and thr motor ran flawlessly. Still rich on the top, but we’ll work on the tune. Response was great, started, ran and was responsive to tune, throttle and idle. What an engine!!
Will say it flew, I had some control issues mostly due to hitting self-level on my SR8 PRO. May add a tad of down trust angle as it liked to climb..
But the 125 flew it, got air borne easily, just felt soft in the air, floaty without a lot of juice. Can’t wait till the 180 shows up..
Thanks for the guidance.
