Here is a review from 1993: https://sceptreflight.com/Model%20En...O%20FA-50.html

I found this higher compression piston, (on the left) that I acquired from Gary and installed in one of my 50's. Yours probably already has it.

I shall take a look at the piston and let you know.

My first FA-50. Alive and well after many hours burning castor oil laced fuel.
No stuck valves, ever

The only fuel I have is " Model technics Formula Irvine 10 Contest Nitro Glow fuel (MTCO10)" which I have been using to power an ASP52 4 stroke. I don't know if it has any castor oil in it.
Can I use this for the Saito FA-50? I understand it has an oil content of 18% using Klotz Techniplate oil. Would I need to add castor to this?

Don't add castor. Your fuel uses an 18% oil content of Super Techniplate (80% synthetic/20% castor).

Dave,
Is that a PSP test stand I see in the picture of the FA-50 running?

Mine is still working great. What happened to the bars on yours?

They're fine, I just thought I'd need new ones some day, maybe it's not so.

Dave and Lonnie
The 4 top bolts that hold the clamps down have had the heads machined down. The heads as stock are 0.375" diameter. They have been machined down to 0.320". diameter for the PSP. In the next couple of weeks at my part time job I'm going to set up a CNC lathe to machine some new bolts. I have to do this between projects at the shop. When I get this done, I will send you some extra bolts. It might be a while, but I will get it done because I need new bolts. As long as I am setting up the CNC lathe and writing a simple program to do it, I'm going to make a bunch of them.

Yessir, and fairly thick. Or maybe not, I haven't used mine in a very long time now. Depressing.

Ouch, sorry to hear that.

Seems Dave mentioned buying spare bolts and clamps several years ago when he bought his PSP stand. Those stands were close to $90 20 years ago. Wonder how much one would cost today?

I bought one NIB from an RCG seller a while back. Paid $75 shipped for it in a package deal with a couple of Saitos and parts. At that time used ones were selling very quick for $100-$125 as PSP had already ceased production.

Sadly the market for such things continues to dwindle.

Default FA-150 Compression ratio update

Dave, your 150 (no letter on lug) combustion chamber measured 2.40 cc. I'll measure mine (marked B on the lug) when I get my replacement piston.

For reference, Clarence Lee measured 2.45 cc

Mike Billinton measured 2.83, hmmmm.
I never read Billinton's review in it's entirety until this AM. Look at the second sentence under, Mechanical Points. It claims steel valve seats. I've never seen that before.

That, and his claimed bore and stroke measurements raise suspicion about other measurements.

I am surprised that they didn't call the 270-T a 275-T.
