Hi All, in regards to the throttle stop screw that holds the barrel in, i decided to try and temper the scew by heat treating it to see if i could harden screw and make it last longer so it does not wear out so quick. i just grabed the screw in some big pliers and got my gas torch on it till it went blue then dunked it in water till it was cold. dont know if this is the right way to do it, but last night flew about 6 tanks of fuel through it it it did not need retuning! when i got home i took the screw back out and it was not worn at all!
i was on getting about 4 tanks before screw would wear before!
If anyone is having problems with their screws wearing out and making it hard to adjust the low end, try this!

I have about 18 Saitos and have been flying them since 1991 and have never had that problem.
Sod, I can run a 14x7 MA and a 14x7 Graupner on my 1.15 tomorrow on 15% WildCat 2/4 fuel if you like.

Mike, I prefer the Graupners purely because of their cool looks, the Graupner blades are about 1/8th inch wider so the MA will turn slightly faster. I don't see the results differing much on the 1.15, but, I'll be back.

really appreciate it.
How's it going with the Bingo? Working on putting mine back in the air this week.
Salerno did you try doing a scratch test with a file to see if the screw was now harder than the barrel?

SB, my wife was stung by a yellow jacket about a week ago and has been in out of the Hospital twice. As to the BigBingo, I have the fuse, tail and the right wing complete. More later.

Dave,
Hope she's feeling better. My wife is allergic also , but we have plenty of time to get her in. Its more like , oops , got stung , finish the dishes , pack up the kids and we'll go to the hospital. Do you have money for an ice cream on the way ?? Hope she's feeling ok

Here are some numbers for four different props, two runs with a TurboHeader installed and three runs with stock exhaust.
Saito 1.15 plain
Fuel===WildCat 15% 2/4 cycle fuel with 18% synthetic lube.
Graupner 14x7 with TH installed, rpm ===8,450
MasterAirscrew 14x7 with TH rpm======9,450, much greater difference than I experienced with Diesels.
MasterAirscrew 14x7 with stock exhaust==9,200
MasterAirscrew 14x9 with stock exhaust==8,450
MasterAirscrew 13x8 with stock exhaust=10,100
Idle with all props 1,900 except 13x8 which needed 2,100 to be smooth.
The 14x9 was very noisy.

thanks for the test runs Dave
wow!
BIG difference in the Graupner vs MA 14 x 7
think I'll get one of each of those and see which performs better in the air

Powerful engine, that 1.15!
The graupner 14x7 bogged my 1.25 as well.
I like the MA 3-bladed props as a result.
Thanks for the numbers, Hobbsy!

Boog, I've never owned any 30%, I did own one jug of 20% a couple of years ago when I had a few YSs, I got rid of the YSs and used up. I now have 5% and 15% and that's it, Sorry.

I'll have to do a comparo between them, I know that all the Saitos I own run fine on the 5%, the only one that has a little problem is the little .30, it does'nt idle very well on the 5%. I'll check the power out on a couple of larger ones though.

Hello everyone at Club Saito! I was given an old Saito 65 to hang on my Hangar9 Cub. The engine came from a friend of a friend's dad, so gummed up it wouldn't move. It was soaked, cleaned and given to me. I was so blown away at how nicely this thing ran, flew and idled, I sent off my YS 63 to Canada to trade for a Saito 72 to use on a Hog Bipe I'm building. So here's my question, I often read about people replacing the bearings in their Saitos, sometimes just for being gummed up. After my experiance, I just can't understand why.
Thanks
