I have a saito 100 turning a 14x8 APC prop. Ran about threee tanks for proper break-in. The most I have gotten on the high end is 7800 RPM and the low end idles nicely at 3200 RPM. My concern is that I thought I should be running around 8500 as minimum on the high end. Also, i have the engine in a Pulse XT60.

I don't believe you've reached the peak rpm on the high speed needle yet, the LS needle is too rich also but can't be set untill you get the HS right. It should easily idle at 2,000 when set up correctly.

i will keep running fuel through (15% omega) and try and to lean in the high end some more. i will keep you posted after work around around 5PM eastern time

Just picked up a Saito .50

Put it on a Goldberg Eaglet. TF 11X7 wood. lots of fun.

previous owner had an idle bar plug in it, LSN way too lean, now - What a sweet heart.

I have acquired a Saito 45s in a disassembled state. I know, I think I do, how to put it together but there is one piece, a kind of washer, that I don't know where it belongs. Can someone help me with this?

I think i understand what you are saying.If the lsn is at factory settings and now you have at least three tanks thru it don't be scared to wind the main needle in to peak it,it's frustrating if you can't.Just remember to wait for about seven seconds at mid throttle after each change of needle and you will hear it,use a tacho too.After that the lsn is easier to set and you8 should get 1800 reliably with little effort,you can hear that happen and it sounds so right you hardly touch it again.

Have to agree. After tuning my FA-45S it's ticking over at 1800-1900 nicely. Oh yes, Saito forum is back to normal.

It rained here (upstate NY) pretty much all day and I have not had a chance to go back at it. Today is a better day, and I plan on tweaking the engine some more to try and get more out HS. I am using a tach to get my RPM readings and it sounds like I just need to tweak the HS needle in more to raise my RPMs past 7800. I am hearing that anywhere between 8500 - 9200 is good, and can get better as the engine breaks in more. The LS anywhere between 2200 - 2800 is good and can get better as well.

thanks for all the advice and I will let you know later tonite or Thursday AM how things went. I am hoping to do a maiden flight of my Pulse xt60 Friday Afternoon.

I made it !! Started at page 1 and here I am. Thanx to you all for the vast information posted here. I would like to join the club. I have: 72, 80 x 2, 82a, 82b, 91, 100 x 3, 115 x 2, 125 x 2, 180, FG20, and am in the process of getting a FG17.

Thanx to the "Hobbsy" method of break-in, my 91 is running sweet. Still breaking it in. Thanx Hobbsy.

One of my 80's was supposedly used, bought it several years ago. So I ran it trying to find a good prop, never ran it lean. After a while, it started running weird, high rpm's were changing, and getting a little black smoke. Then I figured that the engine must have been new, and I ruined it. I'm going to set it on a shelf, and tear it apart when I need to learn how to disassemle. Lot's of good advice here when the time comes. The other Saito's I haven't run yet. My next one is the 72 to break in, putting it a H9 Twist 40.

I have experienced problems entering this forum and two other fora to which I subscribe since August.
I have contacted customer service several times and I am happy to report that after RC Universe closed down the
fora last night and correcting the malfunction, my access is now complete and I think that of many others is
now functional again. At least I hope so!
I do have one other comment and that is that the last five pages in this forum are listed as "page 916."

Well I tried to tweak in the HS and I could not get the rpms to go over 7800. However, the LS did idle nicely at 2000 rpms. I am hoping that my pulse xt60 will have enough power from satio 100 at 7800 rpms.

You're welcome gents, all. I changed to Google Chrome a few weeks ago and did not have any of the difficulties mentioned although McAfee gave me a warning when going to the MarketPlace but that too has gone away.

Ric, glad the break in process worked, it has for on more than 40 Saitos my own and many others. Some think its too involved but to me its the best 40/50 minutes of an engines life. Its fun to actually listen to engine come alive.

I suggest that the new Saito's get some healthy wide open runs when using Dave's break in rpms. They will take it and sound good as they loosen up.

I am spinning a 14x8 apc prop as it outlines in the break-in instructions. After 7800 rpms and trying to tweak a little more it try's to die out and I back off on the HS needle to where she is running between 7600-7800 rpms.

Dave w8 and others are right as said above but you have a fuel supply problem somewhere if you are tuning the needles right,as an example for you to compare i run 2 82 a and b engines in a 65" decathlon and ground prop speed is in the mid eights to nine with an apc 14x6,you should be getting a lot more on a 14x8..is it a wide blade prop?

I have a black horse birddog which is advertised at 7.7# and using a 90 four stroke. Which saito would work well? Which twin would work? Thanks.

I'm flying a US Aircore "Nighthawk", a coroplast high wing. W/a Saito 91S if flies great so far, but I'm still rusty after a 14 year hiatus so I'm still on the buddy box. It weighs just over 7#. The FA91S swings a 15 X 4 Zinger @ 10,300 RPM on glow ignition, 10,500 on spark. It will take the plane staright up from stationary out my hands on either & I would expect the vertical to be near unlimited.

ANY Saito single from 91 up W/the right prop should give similar or better performance on your Bird Dog.

BTW: What's the WS?

If you are looking for a more scale like performance twin cylinder envelope, the FA90T, FA90TS or FA100 Twould fit the bill also.

I agree.I'd pick the 90 twin with the offset cylinders and broken down veedub engine sound,would probably power it scale as well.

I did my maiden flight with my pulse XT60. The satio was at 7800 and pulled the plane around but not with authority. You could tell the sa100 was u der power. I checked to make sure full throttle was at full throttle on the carb and it was. The LS was idle nicely at 1900-2100 RPMs. Try tweaking the HS and the engines want to die.

Is it a new engine? We got some valve problems? Bad fuel? Something is amiss, for sure.

Definately something amiss as the prop/RPM idicates that he is only producing about 1HP.

A 14 X 8 should be turning about 9000 RPM @ 1.5 HP output.

A Saito FA100 should easily make 1.5 HP.
