Could be that huge glass of bundy and the handrolled cigarette..the hp21 sounds interesting.Yes i do have a good engine coming next year but first things first.I'm getting another bike after ten years not owning my own largely due to family comments such as it's time to grow up/to dangerous etc. Many moons ago i successfully raced production class and big bore superbikes and age has'nt mellowed me much which will be a worry when it comes to hanging on to my licence,so was thinking about some sort of cruiser..but what i really want is another ducati 916/996/998 and nothing else.I suppose a triumph thruxton would be a good compromise will wait and see what happens.Cheers mate

Hobbsy, did you use longer bolts to secure the pic-up? Thanks.
[/quote]

ORIGINAL: Hobbsy

Yes sir, I did, I'll have to check one and see how long I used. The C&H mounting plates are counter sunk. Dan could probably say if the C&H bracket requires longer bolts.
As Hobbsy pointed out, the hall sensor bracket is counterbored & will only require about .5mm longer screws than OEM. If you use 1mm longer screws, you are running the chance of bottoming them out. Better to be .5mm too short than .5mm too long. If you can easily aquire the proper length screws go ahead & do so. If not, just use your head & don't over torque the OEM screws. There's plenty of thread bite eiter way.

I used to concern myself W/having the perfect length screws, but after converting all of my Saitos, it's just another part variable headache. now I just use the OEM screws.

Personally, I prefer the V-Strom guys. Of course I'm biased as I have a 2012 650 V.

Anybody have a gnarly, gunky Saito 50, 56 in need of an overhaul that they're willing to sell at a good price?

I just looked that thunderbird storm motorcycle up that you suggested. At 350 kilos(750lbs?) it looks like the next door neighbours dobermann.

I have a serious question about saito's little 30,one of which i have. How come saito advertises that the fa30 tops out at about 11,000rpm in their catalogue and then on the next page you see a sc30? that looks identical, apart from a few anodized parts and a different carb and they quote 22,500rpm.That's desmodromic valve territory at least do you think??
Assuming the engine stayed together long enough to have a quick sip of beer how much nitro is that thing going to swallow?

You too mate.

Still wondering about saito's quoted rpm figures for the fa30s-c engine. They list practical rpm range is 2500 to 22000.What gives there??

They are right the little 30 with steriods runs really hard but keep an eye on the valve springs and collets..  Any way I am back in FNQ, battled a lot of rain on the drive back but it was worth it.  With egards to the OS engines as my old mate would say if the price is good buy it and then convert it to a Saito (sell it for a profit) ASAP.
Any body had any fun with these digital servos.  I've just come across an a/c (ESM Swordfish) with 2 of these beasts in the tail At 2.75 oz per unit I wonder at the mentality of people.  Mind you the same person had a Saito 36 gas engine and installed an after market ignition unit on it from brand new and then scrapped it (sold for $200 with the old ignition unit as well) in favour of a Chinese "copy".  Only thing I am bothered about is the fact I missed out on the engine, dam and blast it.
Drinking Bundy and Colas out of the bottle feeling no pain but got to go in the "bosses" shop for the next week creating her new look, oh well
Catch ya guys and heres hoping for a great year in 013.

You will see half that with a 10-6

or all of it with a wheel?

When using SAI182TD34 (reverse direction camshaft) in a single cylinder Saito, is it timed the normal way, with both valves open at TDC?

Those figures on the Saito 30 are using baby props.  A lot like when we "found" the car version of te OS 26 fourstroke, unreal revs but on as I remember a 7 or 8 x 6 absolutely no use for OT competition.  Very expensive exesise in the end.

Hello barry and bruce plus dave you guys are flubbing us if that is the word.Quoted crankshaft revs are just that and was wondering how saito could get those sort of numbers with the valve gear we all know so well. The way the conventional saito valve gear works is no different to all other similar gear so why the double rev limit figures they quote??

I was wondering the same thing as conventional valve setups like this are likely to exhibit float at those RPM's.

OS made a buggy engine a few years back as I recall (4-stroke). I saw the very same crazy rpm numbers advertised for that engine and wondered the same thing. Perhaps different valve springs?

Those hjigh revving 4 strokes were what we called grenades.  Likely to self destruct "eventually" sooner rather than later if operated in extremis.
Had one (OS) it hemoraged cubic dollars for no nett result except getting a number of guys hearts racing.  It required, as I rember, something like 40% nitro.  Likewise I have seen a Saito 30 fail in similar fashion only difference to OS was it was a "contained failure" and you are right it was the valve collets that let go (least wise that is what we think) resulting in the rest of the internals being destroyed.
Been there done that have the cap and am now preparing a 65 for the Easter Comp at Canowindra (NSW).  It will run in a Miss America in both Texaco and Duration with a prop and fuel type change as applicable.
AND I am going to run a ED racer 2.46 Diesel in a couple of other comps just to stir the boys up.
Cooler here than in other parts of the country today.  No cyclones on the horizon either

You can rarely believe the rev limits advertised for model aircraft engines.

As one example, look up the rev ranges for the 40LA versus the 46AX. Both have very similar rev ranges (16000rpm) but NEITHER will last long at the upper limit (assuming it *is* possible for a 40LA). The same applies for Saito and other manufacturers.

If you buy simply on advertised rpm ranges you got sucked in. Ditto for four strokes.

As for these quoted RPM ranges, rarely will the upper limit be achievable or practical.

Some of them can be reversed. It requires a reversed cam. The secret is the rear cam of the inline twin 200Ti

I reversed an OS FS40 last year, as a test, I rotated the cam inside out and swapped the intake and ex manifolds, it ran better than before, I don't know how long it will last, but my idea worked.
As for the Saito's you need to swap the push rods over, at man to get in touch with is Brian Winch [email protected] he will descibe the process better than I
