Oldest one a square throated 29 -what in the devil is that little screw in the bottom of the front casting for?
That's for a fitting for timed crankcase pressure which is way higher than the untimed pressure everyone uses for fuel pumps. Normally it was only used when the extra large "venturi" was fitted for CL speed or combat.

Hi all you Enya people I have bought in the last two months two 60XF's and two 80XF's two stroke engines mfg by ENYA seems to be a selling binge on ebay and the like. we half to make them last getting harder to get parts for them. Your recommendations on types fo fuel and oil to use, glow pluges, propellers, would be most appreciated. Have a great new year everyone!

I have a 60X and my son has an 80X. We run them with 80/20 (castor) fuel, the 60 using a 12x6 prop and the 80 with a 14x6. Both have been absolutely trouble free and give just about instant hand starts. The 80X will turn the same 12x6 prop 800 revs more than the 60 but with a much raised compression the 60X then matches the 80 (with zero nitro). I haven't played with my son's 80 to see what happens yet .

Ed, I finally caved in and ordered the Enya R-120 that my friend has had in the his showcase for several years, I should have it in a day or two. I'll do a good review on it.

I'd like to hear about that review. I've had two R-120's and thought they were / are fine engines.

John, I just talked to Bobby at Apex Hobbies and he said the R-120 has as a pump, I was not aware of this. I take it that is a good thing. I should get it tomorrow.

John, it arrived a few minutes ago and does indeed have a pump. It includes lots of stuff, besides the normal Enya tools it includes a pressure regulator valve, needle valve extension, Enya #3 glow plug and glow plug harness. Stuff is always good.

Hobbsy,

You are a very lucky guy to score one of those. Sheldon's was blowing those out several years ago at unbelieveably low prices. I passed and got the 155's. I wished I had grabbed all of them now. I can't even imagine of what it would go for on fleabay.

The 120 GP was designed for better fuel delivery in aerobatic models. It makes about the same power as a standard R-120 but the cool factor is way up there. You get the same flawless aerobatic performance with a $50.00 Cline regulator. If you plan to bench run it please give me a heads up.

Hobbsy, I envy you. I had an R120, but it did not have the geared pump (GP) version. The Enya geared pump system is legend concerning reliability and usefulness.

I did manage to buy an Enya 60 XF4 Al-Chrome geared pump 10cc engine a short while back. It and the R120GP were at the top of my list for wanting in the Enya line up.

I'm waiting for that review.

Thanks gents, I had been wanting that engine for a long time, Had I know it was special I would not have been so slow in buying it. I recently sold off my 1.55 and some other engine where I had two or three of the same ones so I said why not.

Enya has a really wierd way of stating the recommended prop size, it says, 14-12x8-11, I think you have to turn that inside out and backwards to say 12.5x8 to 14x11. They rate this engine at 8,000 to 12,500 rpm so I guess its' meant to rev more than other engines this size. I don't see why a 16x6 or 15x8 would not work. Any ideas, Thanks

Brian, I started the break in process, for the first 16oz I used a MA 16x6 Classic, then refueled the tank and changed to an APC 15x8. I did a Saito style break in, sort of.
10 minutes at 4,000,
10 minutes at 5,000, then 500 rpm increases 10 minutes each to 7,000. Halfway through second 16 oz tank I took the reading near peak.

Fuel===WildCat 5%/18% 80/20 syn/castor blend
Prop APC 15x8
Plug==Enya #3
After 45 minutes and 24oz of fuel, rpm==9,600

When I broke in the 1.55 I commented on the really irritating exhaust sound, same with this one, I wish I could put a Saito muffler on it.

In spite of the age of their design (old), the Enya four-strokes do offer considerable power output if allowed to rev up. I was surprised to discover this. Their appearance led me to think that they were mostly meant for lugging, which they will do, but they really shine when allowed to spin a bit.

Well, I hope you all are happy! I read this whole thread the other day about how great you all think your Enya engines are, so now I'm an owner. I just won an auction for a brand new 45 CX w/ muffler for about $72 delivered.

I needed another .46-size 2-stroke like a hole in the head, but if these Enyas are as nice as you all say they are, I'm sure I'll be happy I added one to the collection. Besides, it's always fun to hear, "What the heck is that you're running?" at the field.

P.S. - Nobody tell my wife!

Hey Hobbsy
Nice score getting an R120-GP. Enya geared pumps are fantastic.
I love my R-120 and I fly it on a 3D profile OMP 65" Yak. Effortlessly pulls it around and hovers a few notches above idle with a 16x6 Master wood Scimitar.
I found that 10% fuel on that prop was the best for keeping it from detonating during full throttle blasts from a hover. Instant throttle response and super friendly. These things take a considerable time to get the ring nicely seated and then you will notice a noticable increase in friendlieness, power and crispness in transition.

On a hot stickey day, I would still get some detonation blasting out of a hover into an extended vertical climb. I fixed that by making a head shim out of a beer can. It still runs fantastic on 10% with no noticable loss in power and will comfortably run 20% now (even on hot days). Tuned to 20%, this engine is much stronger than 10% without the shim.
Now I fly any fuel I have laying around in the thing and its happy and powerful.

Default RE: Does anyone else love Enya engines?

I just found this thread. I have a couple of Enya engines, a 40 CX and a SS 30 BB Type TN. I got them both from Ebay. The 40 was supposed to be a real nice engine, but turned out the bearings were cooked. I got new ones from Boca and it turns fine now. Also has great compression, so I think it will be a good runner. The 30 is brand new in the box. I only paid $65 for it, so I think I got a real good deal. I have not had Enya engines since the early 70s, but I do remember that they were great engines. The 40 had no paperwork with it and the 30 manual was in Japanese. Anyone have any idea what nitro and lube content I should use for these engines? Is the 30 a lapped piston type engine? How do I proceed to break the 30 BB in? Anyone got a manual for either of these engines in English?

Yep, the 30SS is a lapped piston so break it in with lots of castor, very rich for a while and take your time. Enya have always used very hard steel in their liners. BTW, to check if any engine has an iron piston just lay a strip of rubbery fridge magnet on top of the piston. If it sticks.......
