Check out the 01-03 issue of MAN. Dave Geirke did a "60" dyno shoot-out. The 61 FX was a dog.

I don't say that.
And ofcourse i didn't say that OS company makes ONLY trouble FREE engines!
Any engine brand had,has and will have problems with new developments.
But,my oppinion is,and that's what i said in previous posts that OS engines have tiny tiny problems in comparison with other brands like, what else YS!
How many of them discontinued due to running problems?
I had a YS 53 FZ and sold because of this thing, and in a few months later,YS discontinued and came up with the YS 63 FZ.
The same thing made with the 63 FZ,which was ofcourse less problematic, and discontinued due to the design of the YS 63 FZ_S.
That's what i said,understood?[:-]

Why has the winner of that shoot out not mentioned as a possible choice? Cost? Doesn't seem to stop people from bolting $300 Jetts on their planes.

If I correctly recall, the strongest engine was the cheap Tower .61, but the real winner was the Fox Eagle IV.
It had the highest torque, although it was the only one that was run, on the cheapest 5% nitro fuel.
It also behaved great, but was by far the loudest.
It seems the irregular construction of Fox engines makes them fall out of favor, in contention with 'regular' engines.
I don't see any real reason for this to happen.

Dave,
The Eagle 4 is more conventional, but I remember the eagle III, with its bolt-on cylinder (that we both like in MVVS)...
The Eagle 4 still has an unusual carburettor and its 'list' price is way above the $100 that many of the contenders sported.
It seems Fox Manufacturing still does not understand the 'street price' convention...
I think everyone still miss Duke.
