The point I am trying to make is, a YS 1.10 will turn a 16-6 APC between 9,800 and 10,000 on 20-20. You can make your own conclusions.[sm=idea.gif] Maybe I exagerated the difference, but the Saito numbers on RCU are anywere from 8700-9400. That would make an average of about 9,000 with a 16-6 APC.

I can tell you that my 125 turns more that 9000 on a 16.5x5w. 8700 on a 16x6 is much lower than I got. Maybe that was during break-in running super rich.

In one of your earlier posts you mentioned close to 10,000 with a 15-6APC.

I hit 10,000 with a 15x6 APC, then stopped leaning out the top end because I did not want to over rev the engine. At that point, I changed to a 16.5x5W APC.

Hey would you say that with those numbers the 16.5x5 is the best aerobatic prop for this motor??

You can't over rev the engine with a prop in the recommended range, regardless of how lean you tune it. There is nothing magical about 10k rpm. You guys worry too much.

The 125 is one smooth engine. Doesn't mis a beat even Ungodly rich...

Filled the tank with 30% helimix and proped with an APC 16.5x5...

Ran it up to 3/4 throttle and the engine SCREAMS put a tach to it and get...

......

Yeah seems like im having tach issues. But hey i just recieved the most powerful 125 in the history!!!!
Ill have to re-post real numbers after i fix the tach... Just thought you could use a laugh!!

Two buddies of mine had their new 125s out over the weekend. One was in a Four Star 60 for break in with a 16x6 prop and I swear the only engine I've ever seen run better out of the box was a 25 year old OS FS120 I have (In my 4*120), the other was in a Hangar 9 Mustang that had previously been propelled by a Saito 100. The new 125 with a 13x13 prop was keeping up with a similarly sized mustang powered by a YS110 - still the 110 was a bit faster. The 125 was brand new (second flight, 4 tank of gas) and running quite rich. So...I might think that when the 125 started to come out of break-in it will give the 110 a very good run for its money. Especially in that it is lighter and when weight is concerned you need exponentially more power to move more weight and thus exponentially less to move less.

Regardless; it seems from what I have seen that the 125 is a very fine engine and it also seems to me that the YS110 is a very fine engine.

I'll leave it at that.

The Saito will still be flying when the YS is waiting for parts...(wink)

Sorry, I couldn't resist. YS guys are such easy targets and I needed a fix. Wait a minute! I'm a YS guy too!

I do agree that we Saito 1.25a owners are fortunate to own such fine machines. As are we OS, YS, Enya, Magnum, HP, ASP, SC, etc., owners fortunate in our own ways.

I appreciate the pics that have been posted. It keeps the blood running in these old veins. Nice job.

I use Cool Power Pro-Pattern 20/20. I am happy with it and the performance of the engine. It does smoke a little more though.

Everyone might say... why invest in 30% fuel all the time? Sorry i enjoy the power and nothing performs better than 30% helimix with an added 4oz of castor.

I got some more numbers for my 1.25 today using WilddCat 10% Premium Extra. It keeps improving a little with each run.

Graupner 15x8===9,190
Graupner 14x11==8,750
APC 14x12=====8,555

All that means is that it actually has the advertised lubricant content. <G>

Isn't that the beauty of our hobby? We can do pretty much as we please.

I'm not usually a high nitro user, but I'm going to order a case of 30% nitro fuel just to experience it once again.

My only complaint about high nitro is the fact that if the nitro plant goes down AGAIN, some of today's engines won't run well for a while.

Besides, nitro is cheating to an old timer like me. I remember when there was an FAI ban on nitro for most events. This forced the engine manufacturers to stop using the nitro crutch and to make engines that actually idled, transitioned and produced excellent power with no nitro. That was a good era.

I have no philosophical dislike of nitro. You're talking to a guy that wouldn't burn anything less than Fox Missile Mist (25% nitro) during the mid sixties. I was a control line combat afficianado back then and that is what it took to stay competitive.

I Loved an Enya 120 back in the late 80's but this Saito 125a is my new favorite... I am running a 16x6 apc and FHS (Red Max) 15% with only synthetic lubricant.... tach's at 9,000 peak and running a little richer... it is on a U Can Do... I have read that a 16.5 x 5 will give me a better hover and pullout but haven't tryed it yet... also I have the telementry hooked up and the normal run temp at the top center of the cilender head is 215deg.f ... I have been experimenting with how hot it will run under a load and I have seen it at 280 deg. f ... I point the plane strait up and let it climb almost out of sight... I had the telementry warning set to 275 deg. f and the alarm sounded... chopped the power and the temp quickly lowered below the alarm setting... hovering it the temp will climb to the 250 to 260 range in about 45sec.

WOW a 6+ year old thread. Welcome to the forums Crosswind7777!!

I can't quote the tach numbers, but I have been running for many years a Master Airscrew Scimitar series wood 16x6 on my 1.25. The prop is really light and has great throttle response. I have not tried the APC you mentioned, but have tried the Xoar 16x6 also. The Xoar is faster and is probably a better sport prop. When the tail is hanging 2" off the deck though, the MA has that instant thrust you need.

Thank you for the info on the props... the APC 16x6 is heavy... almost 4 oz. I am looking forward to the MA Scimitar... by the way how do you get your photograph to show up on the side of this forum? I am a newbe and need some help...

Hi Crosswind-

Go back to the main forums page where you select engines, or cars, etc and scroll to top. In the top right corner you should see a small box titled Settings. Click that and you will see where you have the option of uploading your personal pic for your avatar along with other personal info.

Glad to see that you found Glow Engines. The 125 is a great engine. I run mine with an APC 15x6. I think it's turning in the low 9000 range on the ground. The 125 is more of a torquer than a revver.

I should also mention your idle will suffer with the light weight props I mentioned. There is less of a flywheel effect and the idle will be slightly higher and a little rougher. It's a small trade off for better performance in my book.

I have several 125A's.

I started out with a 15 X 6 but after 3 or 4 gallons of fuel I started using a 16 X 6.

The 125 "B" makes better power than the "A". The angle between the valves is different and the shape of the combustion chamber is a little different.

The 125B will do pretty good with a 16 X 6 from the beginning.

I run a 17 X 4 on one that is in a U-Can-Do 60 but it will over speed if left full throttle in level flight for any time at all.

That's about what I have on mine, and it's a A model. Maybe I'll put on the bigger APC when I run it again. It seemed about 100% broken in. The plane has gone thru some major work since last flying.

Thank you... these numbers will help as I am still not completely satisfied with the APC 16x6... You guys know, we have to have about three or four props we will never use per engine...

I think I will be trying the MA Symitar 16x6... the quick throttle responce sounds great... it just might make me alittle better in the hover and the engine run cooler on the uplines...

Merry Christmas to all...

Thank You to all...
