OS 46FX Cover Plate Replacement
A question for the OS experts out there.
I have an OS46FX which requires a new coverplate due to a... umm... sudden wind shear and freak local gravity warp... OK, you caught me... I smacked it into the ground and broke the needle valve holder off the cover plate. I realize it's a common problem with crashed... pardon me, "gravity warped" 46FX engines.
Could I replace it with the cover plate assembly from the newer 46AX? Judging by the pictures on the Tower Hobbies website, I would say "no" as the FX version has a flat side on the part that inserts into the back of the crankcase. That section of the AX cover plate appears to be completely round. Like I said, I don't think I can swap one for the other, but wanted to make sure I wasn't imagining things.
Now, the needle valve holder on FX is broken off close to the needle valve itself. The cover plate portion is still intact. I don't like the idea of the needle valve just flapping around in the breeze. I could try some JB Weld I suppose...
What about just bolting on the needle valve holder and needle valve assembly from the AX onto the intact cover plate portion of the FX? Would this work? I suppose the only "wrinkle" might be the distance between mounting screws on the AX/FX coverplates.
Has anybody tried this? Can anybody see a reason why it wouldn't work?
Thanks for any input you can provide..

Martin,
Don't bother buying the expensive OEM OS part.
Magnum/ASP/SC/SY engines are ABC clones of the OS.46FX and their parts interchange and are much cheaper.
Check [link=http://www.hobbypeople.net/part/21075601.asp]this[/link] out. Under $10

Thanks for the input. I knew there were "clones" out there, but I'd like to be able to change the orientation of the needle valve and was curious if I could graft on the needle valve holder and assembly from an AX.

That's the way I'm heading I think... now all I have to do is track down some motor mounts... I discovered I broke those also.... [:@]
