Default ASP 108 carb help

I have an older ASP 108 engine...I believe it's around 8 years old or so. The carb is completely frozen and rather than ripping it apart, I'd rather just get a new carb so I don't have to worry about it. I need some help in knowing what carb to get to replace this. I noticed that horizonhobby.com sells ASP 108 carbs for around $35 but I don't know if they will be compatible with the older ASP engines like the one I have. Does anyone know if they will work? I've read that the OS 7D carbs will fit but the only one I can find on ebay is $65 and I don't really want to spend that much.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

dr_jones_, I've had very good luck un-sticking frozen carbs with penetrating oil and a heat gun. Usually it will free up in a minute or two. Afterwards, rinse away the penetrating oil with fuel. It's tough on o-rings if left in contact too long.

Soak it in rubbing alcohol till it frees up.

You can also soak it in fuel, or put it in a warm oven for a while. Old castor oil makes a fair adhesive, but not fuel proof, and frees up with a little heat.

I have two of the Horizon ASP 108 carbs. They fit my old model ASP 108 "Red Head" perfectly.

Hi!
New carb??? When all you have to do is warm it...either in an owen or with a heat gun.

Thanks for the response on unfreezing the carb, but I'd rather pay $30 - $40 for a new carb that I know will be reliable then to try to fix the old carb that looks like crap and has some corosion on it.

So, back to my original question...Will the horizon ASP 108 carb fit the older "non red head" ASP 108? If not, what carbs will fit as a substitution?

Thanks again,

Thats not corrosion, its castor oil freezing it up. It looks like rust but it isn't.

Most of the reason I'm not wanting to use the current carb isn't because I'm affraid of cleaning it, the needle settings are all wrong and I don't have any sort of instruction on starting points for them. This is a used engine that was on a bipe that I just purchased. I don't know how long it's been since the engine has been turned over. If I can spend a few bucks and get a shiny new carb for it, then at least if it's not running I know it's not the carb.

I'm wanting a new carb.

The new carb will fit your engine perfectly.

There is a steel sleeve in the new carb that reduces the venturi size for the ASP 91. You just remove the sleeve for the 108 but the engine will run just fine to leave the sleeve in place.

The High Speed needle usually runs close to one turn out on both the old and new carbs.

I have an old ASP .91 red head that won't give steady runs. It seems to have poor fuel draw. Compression is excellent, and the carb is clean. Is there any reason why a new ASP carb might be better?

The old and new are made a little different.

The only problem I ever saw with some of the old ones was that the barrel spring was weak. A poor throttle linkage would let the barrel slip in and out changing the mixture all the time. I just put in a stronger spring from the hardware store.

Whatever care you end up with will require adjustment so why buy a new one. Clean the one you have.
