Default engine alignment

My son has a Duratrax ST. With a torq 16 engine it seems that the engine is out of alignment and the gear teeth are binding. What is the proper proceedure to align this thing and is there a certain gap between the two gears? So they won't bind and yet not strip at the same time. thanks

Try placing a piece of writing paper between the gears and then tighten the engine up. Rotate the gear to see if there is any binding. If not, your ready to go. BTW.. paper is about .003"-.005". I have set up electrics with gear boxes this way and it works real good.
