Default I have one problem with Saito 1.80.

Hello everyone!

I have the Saito 1.80 engine and problem with full trothle when i try to use 30% nitro with it. The engine feels like 2-stroke when lean, engine slows down if i dont pull trotle back to slow. When i tried for less nitro (15%) that problem is gone. Feels like engine have some problems get fuel from the tank.

Here is my current setup while this problem occurs.

-Saito 1.80 with the OS F plug.
-Slimline invert smoke muffler
-Fuel: Aerosave oil 20%, Methanol 50% and nitro 30%
-APC 16x12 prop
-Main needle is 6 truns open. [sm=confused_smile.gif] Is this really normal??

Ghost, that 16x12 is too much prop, when you overload an engine that much the airflow velocity through the carb is reduced, which reduces the fuel draw. In turn, you compensate by setting the mixture richer, the 30% nitro fuel requires an even richer mixture making the problem worse. Lose the big prop and lose the 30% nitro and you'll have a fine running engine.

G'day Mate,
I don't believe you are using a prop that is too big, but 10% to 15% nitro will probably run better, check out this Saito page, http://saito-engines.info/prop_sizes.html
The problem is, that with 30% nitro, the OS F plug, is too hot for that fuel, too use 30%, you would need a colder plug.

Thanks! I try cooler plug and see how it works if not, then less nitro.
