Default OS 48 surpass prop for Ultimate 40

Hi Guys,
I have a OS 48 Surpass laying around so I purchased a thewingmaker 40 Ultimate (I think it is the same as WM Ultimate 40), which calls for a 48 FS engine. I was wondering what prop would be best? I`m not into 3-d flying , just sport.
Thanks,
Frank

I have one. I found it likes to run fast. Just under 12K rpm. Lower speeds produced sluggish throttle response. At that rpm the throttle response was noticably crisper . Some will say not to run a 4 stroke beyond 10K, but 12K is within the limits published by OS for Surpass engines of this size. I run a 12x4 APC prop. It's on an LT-40. I think a 12x5 would be better for that plane... but I've have yet to try it.

I had a 48 on a Slowpoke for several years. I started with a 12-6 but soon changed to a APC 12-5 which I liked.

They will do pretty good with the APC 12.25 X 3.75 prop also. They turn up pretty fast but seem to like it.

There was a guy and his son at the flying field last year. They had a Trainer 40 with a OS 52 Surpass running a 10-6 prop. That thing just screamed. I was waiting for it to blow up? They flew it around 6 times. It always ran perfect. It looked as though the guy had been using it that way a couple years?

The main difference between a 48 and a 52 is less than a millimeter of stroke increase and the glow plug is recessed 4 mm.

The OS 52 or the Magnum 52/61FS twin needle carburetors will bolt onto the OS 48 like they were made for it..

I agree with w8ye.......... I have a Gee Whiz Bee with a OS48 and the 12.25x3.75 APC and the MAS 12x5 K prop are both good choices. I was surprised at the guts the little 48 has. I can't imagine it on a Slowpoke because I have 2 of them . But just like a bipe they have alot of drag. One of my Slowpokes I will take the SK50 off and try a K&B 61............

I still have the same Slowpoke ARF.

The original old 48 eventually developed bearing trouble. So I installed a Magnum FS61 on the plane for a couple years. For the last year it now sports a OS 52 made from my old OS 48. (This is not a cost effective conversion) It runs the APC 12.25 X 3.75 prop. I like it very well that way. I usually fly the Slowpoke at lower speeds. I will throw it full throttle on up lines. The plane is rather maneuverable with inside stuff but for you kids at heart, it will not hoover. The Slowpoke has seemed about the same with all three engines.

There's another guy at the field with a old HP61 two stroke on his Slowpoke kit. He's one of those full throttle guys. The Slowpoke hasn't fluttered yet.

There is yet another guy with a 115% Slowpoke with a Saito 72. It flies nice also. Up in the air, you do not notice that it is much bigger.

We had an honorary sergent from the Army at our field and he flew the crap out of his Slowpoke. It flew OK with a Tower 46. Then I introduced him to a Higley heavy prop nut and an APC 12.25x3.75. Wow -The guys at the field couldn't believe a Slowpoke would hover and perform 3D manuvers......His knife edge looked like a kite flying in the wind with the huge wing chord.
By the way the Ultimate needs power and not speed..............
