First, I bought 2 old, I mean real old and worn OS 60 engines.
One was solid and rusty and one was slightly moving.
I put one of the bad OS together with a gold top, and I'm impressed it works real good, no new bearings and no new rings or sleavs.
The gold head made with a 11/7 reved 11600 just put together.
The second engine was used for parts and I made a Merco/OS I took the complete Merco and used the sleave from the OS and ported it and the Merco piston and I used the one plug OS head.
This engine had NO compression when put together, but it started fine.
With the same muffler and propp as the goldhead it reved 10400 rpm, and it was getting stronger by the minute but my naibors was not happy

With a real good muffler or pipe both of the engines would performe alot better.

I like the older engines. They just work...

I look for the older models (70’s 80’s versions) on *bay when I need an engine for a new plane. Just my opinion, but I think that they were made better.

Now that the larger scale models/engines and the cost(s) associated with them have just about taken over. The 40-60 size models have become more appealing to me. I think that they’re just as much fun and aren’t a hassle to take to the field, also it doesn’t hurt as bad when you tear one up.

With the economy heading “down the road” it makes perfectly good sense to try and use what others don’t want or need.

You're right, I still have a number of my old engines that are 25 plus yrs old and they still run great. I am still not sure why OS quit making the FSR series. They were excellent engines and many others were great as well.
