Engine Selection Question

I have a Thunder Tiger Easy Trainer (61 WS, Wt approx 5.5lbs) that calls for a .40-.46 2-stroke or the TT54 4-Stroke.

I would like to hang a 4-stroke on this and have a Magnum .52 4-stroke and an ASP .61 4-stroke. Will the Mag .52 with an 11x7.7 prop pull this plane with some authority or might I be better off with the ASP .61?

Thanks for any input,

It will fly as a trainer with the Magnum. But the ASP would make it a lot more fun. You would have to keep the .52 pretty much WOT all the Time. With the ASP you can cruise around at half throttle and give it a burst when you want to do a loop or something.

The Magnum would be a fine engine on a smaller plane though.

Enjoy,

Jim

Engine Selection Question

Thanks Jim.

That's exactly what I wanted to hear ;)

I want to have some zing in this one and I've been looking for an excuse to mount this .61 on something.

If all else fails, MORE POWER! I like that! :D :D :D

Thanks,

Use that 11-7 prop onthe 61 or at least try it. It'll turn up pretty good. A broken in 61 should do 10,000 with a 12-6.

Enjoy,

Jim

IMO, when in doubt, always add power...

...that's what throttles are for. You will be happier with the .61, even happier with an O.S. .70 4S or Magnum .80 4S.

A four-stroke .52, IMO, has little use except for a scale flying airplane (J3 Cub, Cessna 182, etc.)...

Thanks for all the input guys.

I am going to hang the ASP .61 with an 11x7 so I can have some fun with this thing.

Thanks again,

 If you can do the 70 os

I once had a CG Eagle II with an OS 70 4stroke, it was one of the most awesome planes to fly. I took all dihedral out, enlarged the elevator life five times it's size and made a huge rudder.

It did awesome flat spins, tumbles and all kind of things, hover was easy. On a 10 mph breeze it could do an almost zero take off roll. Yet I could put around and fly on rudder and elevator.

Just reminicing :disappoin
