fuel pump questions (engine)
I was considering pumping fuel from a CG mounted tank. My thoughts were to run the pump wide open pumping the fuel in a circle back to the tank. At the carb I would put a tee in the line and let the engine use only what it wanted. In my mind it would be like having the tank right at the carb?????

I guess you are talking about glow engines? The Walbro type carb used with gas engines pumps fuel from as far away as 4 feet, and having a demand type pump, needs no return line. There are threads here on RCU on how to convert a Walbro carb to just a pump, although you would need a tan or purple diaphragm to resist the methanol in the glow fuel. There are also pumps designed for glow fuel that operate off of the vibration of the engine. So, there is no need to reinvent the wheel, just do a search here on RCU to see what has been done.

Use a perry Micro oscillating pump. You don't need all the other stuff you mentioned. Just hook up the pump and you are in business.

The IronBay or Cline regulators are demand regulators that only allow fuel to flow when the spraybar demands it. They utilize a check valve to pressurize the tank, either is more reliable than the Perry. The regulators mentioned will not allow engine to flood when the tank is too high.

Good luck. Yes, glow 2C and 4C. I have an old Robart pump. Uses vacuum/pressure cycle from the engine crankcase. I'm thinking about some aerobatics (IMAC) and want to minimize CG changes throughout the flight. Here I go over engineering again.... [8D] I'm also working an a 20% Zlin 526 and it has a nose about a mile long;) The tank sets back farther than I like so the IMAC plane will be a test of sorts. I'll check out the IronBay and Cline regulators. Ken |

You're talking about a robart super-pumper right?
For the most part, whenever we were using those it was one line from tank, one to crankcase one to carb nipple and that was it. This was for a 61VF though If you can get your tank back on the CG, you won't regret it. Just be ready to spend a little more time priming the engine as you have to suck the fuel through 12" of tube instead of 4". |

Yup, I'm pretty sure that is the one. I've lost the instructions many moons ago but I was thinking there was an "adjustment" some how to change the volume and or fuel flow. Does anybody remember how that was done? Heck this thing might not even work after setting around for so long.
