OS fs 70 Surpass
I bought this on Ebay because it was listed as un-run. The pushroods do not move when engine is turned over. The valves can be opened manually by pressing on the stems with the rocker assbly removed. With the valves closed it seems to have low compression. Can the cam followers get stuck in the up position? Are parts available for this engine? The OS website says parts may not be available, how can I tell if the are? Thanks Huck
|
RE: OS fs 70 Surpass
If the followers were stuck they would be stuck in the open position not the closed position..have you turned the motor over several times and watched the valves?

Yes, as mentioned, that is how I discovered the push rods do not move.

You might try heating the engine with a heat gun or in an oven for a 5-10 minutes then try turning it over. Compression on a 4 stroke can be low due to carb position and/or the ring stuck in the piston groove. Try the heat first to free it up.

Along with the heat, I would suggest using some isopropyl alcohol also to dissolve the gunk in the engine, this should free it up good. Some ebay sellers are a little fast and loose with the terms "NIB, Mint, New, Never used, etc". |
RE: OS fs 70 Surpass
The seller has offered to accept the returned engine with full refund including shipping costs. Because the parts for this engine may not be available, I chose to return it. If the engine was truly un-run I would not have worried about parts availabilty. Thanks for all the input.

ORIGINAL: huck1199 I bought this on Ebay because it was listed as un-run.
Un-run is ebay code for "we tried to start it and did'nt succeed", :D it probably had fuel left in it though before it was put up. |
RE: OS fs 70 Surpass
The 70 surpass was discontinued and replaced with the 70 surpass II that is now replaced by the alpha series fourstrokes. There are still many spare parts out there for the surpass floating around even though tower does'nt have them. The surpass series were made for a long time and even the new alpha engines use some surpass parts. |
RE: OS fs 70 Surpass
If you don't mind, what did you pay for it?

RE: OS fs 70 Surpass
$135, seemed a good price for an un-run engine.
