Because of your altitude in Boulder, I would remove the "set ring" and re-adjust the needle until it runs well at altitude.

You will make things a lot easier if you put an A3 plug in it. You have a great engine there that puts out a lot of power for the price. I wouldn't take 5 OS's for mine. You just need to get things right. The high speed was lean in the video. The low end sounded wet. See what the proper heat range plug gives you. The A3 is a game changer in the .455.

The muffler gasket will have no effect. You can run it without them if you want.

With the OS 8 plug, try easing the throttle up and down in increments so it has time to get rid of excess, unburned fuel.

Just as a side note, i've always had to slowly ease the throttle to high. If i did it quickly, it would stall the engine and it would hesitate.... a lot. I'll see if i can get one of those plugs and see what happens. I'll also try riching the crap out of it (turn counterclockwise until smoke starts to billow)

Thanks!

Everything blw said. Yeah, loose the muffler gasket too, metal to metal is just fine.

Any muffler I connect metal to metal always comes loose. Tighten the screws when the engine is hot, sometimes checking it 2-3 times after the engine has been hot and cooled, hot and cooled. Prevents the black/gray "goo" from getting all over and prevents muffler loss in the air.

Yes, tighten when the engine is hot. But it is more important to tighten after the engine has cooled off again. I have had more trouble with engines with exhaust gaskets, unless you consider RTV a gasket.</p>

Hi!
Have you tried setting the engine rich? I mean opening the high speed needle when the engine rews at full throttle so the the rpm drops due to too much fuel?!

Forget about removing the carb, just check so that the carbs is securely mounted.

Never ever try to set any screws when the silencer/engine is hot!!! Screws should always be tightened when everything is cold. They will loosen otherwise!

A gasket between the engine and silencer isn't necessary!

Run 5-10% nitro fuel and an OS 8 or ENYA 3 or 4 plug.

I actually tried this last night. I turned the high-speed needle counterclockwise a good two rotations and started it up. I could tell it was very rich as it was bogged right down, sputtering, and billowing smoke. The sad part is after doing that, i brought it back to its original position and it ran like a bear. WTH.

Ugh, now i'm just afraid to fly it because im worried it'll start acting up again mid-flight.

Jaka, I have a new in the box Evolution .46NT downstairs in my shop right now. I would really like to give that to you one day and watch you chase your tail trying to get it to run any differently than the OP's engine is running right now.

I've two in the mail and on their way. I'm hoping for the best because i'd hate to waste $100 on an engine when i could have put it towards an OS 46AX

i just tried it again and it works great. im wondering if running it really rich flooded whatever was in there out. i can go from 0 to full throttle and there is no hesitation. i'm still going to replace the plugs with A3s, but hopefully it was just a piece of dirt.

I'm going to invest in a RPM meter. Does anyone know what a good range would be for the low speed and high speed? I think it will help me keep it tuned to the changing conditions better.

Thanks!

Usually that is true. But sometimes, especially if the screws are aluminum or brass, the screw may expand more than the part it holds. So it is best to tighten when cold, again when hot. and once again after it cools off.
