FT 300 wont run
We have an OS FT 300 at our field that if we plug the exhaust and crank it to force fuel into the carb, we can get it to run for a few seconds at a time. Fuel is flowing from the tank ok. I've had the carb apart and started at factory mixture settings and richened to no avail.
I'm questioning the position of the mixture control valve, the part that appears to be pressed into the carb body. There is a slit type opening on it and when the carb rotor is fully open, looking in from the motor side of the carb, I can only see a portion of the slit opening rather than most of it. I had a saito carb where this slit opening had to be positioned fully toward the intake into the motor. The one on the FT 300 is pointing mostly up and toward the intake. Any info you have on this would be helpful?? |

This is a Saito 2.20 carb, your cats eye slot should be in this position. |

My pics are trying to show the "catseye" is vertical but not fully exposed to the rotor window. Could be that someone assembled it incorrectly, but I cannot get it to come out. It's a brass part inside the aluminum body, I heated it with a heat gun and tried tapping on it, should I try with a torch? |
Since your cats eye is radial rather than lateral it looks correct for your set up. I was thinking of a horizontal cats eye. I don't think that's your problem.

Thanks Hobbsy, The compression feels good so I'll look into other issues like a vacuum leak in the manifold.

Update:
Good compression on one cylinder. I found the right cylinder rockers and valves are gummed up, valves stay open. The worst of it was rockers tight on the shaft, removed rockers and cleaned. Worked the valves back and forth till free. Timing looks fine, after I check for vacuum leaks in manifold we'll fire it off. |
Gemini 300 running good now.
