Remote needle and starting difficulty

I am getting a lightly used Evolution 52 (remote needle) 2 cycle ready for next season, hi wing trainer. It runs and it's cold here in Pa. New tank, fuel lines, new #8 plug and quality 15% fuel. It's more difficult to start than the conventional needle engines. It requires more priming, more starter spinning. Is this normal for the remote needles? Maybe I'm just not priming it enough. Any tips appreciated. Thanks.
Bill

Are you using muffler pressure to the tank?

If so, and the muffler isn't hot, try putting your finger or thumb over the exhaust outlet while you spin the starter - that will pressurize the tank and fuel will flow. Doesn't take a lot, you don't want to flood it.

That's what we do sometimes on our pylon race motors to get things started, and most of those are remote needle these days. No priming, just a little tank pressure.

Might work, anyway.

Yes to the muffler pressure. I will try your suggestion, thanks! BTW I read on this list something about shooting some lighter fluid into the carb prior to starting, I will try that too.

I've heard of similar, using spray starting fluid, etc when the weather is really cold.

I don't fly when it's that cold! A friend of mine once said that he doesn't fly if the temperature minus his age wasn't above zero.. the older I get, the nicer the days need to be!

I also use a RCATS plug driver to light plugs, that doesn't hurt.

RCATS? I'll goog. I use an orange colored glow lighter, forgot the name. I'd like to get some back ups, maybe a few that work on double A's. I use a Tactic 550 2.4g Tx that uses AA's so I always have a supply in my field box and car.

Edit: that should be a Tactic 660
